    Bloody Yolk? -no pictures-

Thank you! I do know that they do not have any diseases- all they have been doing is sneezing, and that's gone away with electrolytes, probiotics, and apple cider vinegar. I will read those links as soon as possible!

    Bloody Yolk? -no pictures-

I cracked open a rather long egg tonight, expecting a double yolk, but instead a clump of blood came out- no yolk. Upon further investication I found an air sac and a wrinkly bit of shell at the top exterior. What could this be? I know the egg was laid today because I collected last night. It...

    Strange acting pullet

I'm so sorry for your loss. Hopefully it was.

Oh no....could this be a roo? *Panicking*

Both of the pictured birds are probably pullets. I would be asking the lab for a refund, as previously stated. They were probably wrong.

Go on, admit it... Do you talk to your chickens?

I talk to my beauties all the time. They respond with a low cluck if I call them to me, and they follow me when I say the word 'scratch'. Such smart gals they are! Much better than the people I speak with on a daily basis.

Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

I agree! We slaughter our birds with a gas that vets use to put them to sleep for surgery. We leave the birds in for a little longer and they die in their sleep. The meat doesn't get contaminated because it isn't a chemical has- completely natural! So much better than industrial techniques.

    Silkie thread!

I have done that before!! It was a hatchery chick that had near frozen to death on the way in the mail. She snuggled in and fell asleep. Now she's one of my kindest birds!

    Free range or supervised range

Welcome! I supervise range my chickens, it is just generally safer for them. They also have a fenced run that I put them in during the day- they range in the mornings and in the evenings.

How much would you buy a golden laced chicken for?

I sell my birds for $20 a piece, including GLWs. Take the money and run!! That is a lot for a bird, though it would be considered very cheap if you were selling Ayum Ceyamis (not sure of spelling)... Anyway, welcome! This is a very friendly community and I'm sure you will enjoy your time here!

    New chicken owner.

Welcome! You have a very nice flock so far. One thing you'll find: chickens are addictive! You'll start out with twelve, then buy three more, then five more, then ten more, then twenty-nine more, until you have over ninety! Lol, just kiddinng. Most backyard flocks max out at around sixty or...

    The EE braggers thread!!!

She hasn't started laying yet; the breeder sold her to us as a chick and explained what color egg she would lay as an adult. The other two are laying and so far he was correct with the predicted egg colors. :D
