    Missing toe nails

I did contact the feed store. They told me I had to teach them to eat and drink. I did try but they were too weak so I spoon fed them. Made sure the temperature was right and just prayed. I never did contact the hatchery because I really didn't think I would get any support after talking to the...

    Missing toe nails

I ordered 6 bantams from a feed store, 2 each Mille fleur Duccle, Old English and Silver Laced Seabright. When I picked them up they were limp, unresponsive and barely moving. I hand fed them water mixed into their food. One had splayed legs which I taped with a small bandaid. I lost 3 about a...

    Feeding Oatmeal Hazards

Thank you all. The oatmeal was in a dish but the beards always gets food on them and water too. Will try mixing with something like yogurt or applesauce and not cooking then maybe it won't be so sticky.

    Feeding Oatmeal Hazards

So I love to spoil my girls and feed them a bowl of warm oatmeal on a cold winter day. They gobble it up and wipe there sticky oatmeal beaks on the straw and pick it off of each other as it flies everywhere. A few days ago we had such a cold morning and after they ate the oatmeal one of my EE...

Chickens jumping on my back...just to sit and visit

I am new at keeping chickens and spoil them to death. I handle them every day and bring them into my house for maybe about 10 minutes each. Today I had one of my Barred Rocks inside. She had an accident. While I was bent over cleaning up, she jumped on my back. This has never happened to me...

First egg from my Barred Rock took an hour.

I know they will get bigger and bigger. I also know that you can keep them laying in the winter with added light.

First egg from my Barred Rock took an hour.

Thank you all. Yes, very eggciting. I have 3 EE that just started laying at 20-21 weeks old and 2 Barred Rocks just starting at 20 weeks and waiting on my 1 New Hampshire. Sorry, made a mistake. The Barred Rocks are only 20 weeks old. Oooops!!

Just wanted to post pictures of my first brown egg from one of my Barred Rocks at 22 weeks old. Took her an hour and then she sang the egg song!! LOL

My new future chicken guard dog

I have a 9 month old Walker Coon Hound that I rescued about 2 months ago. I also have a black Pom that I have had for a couple years. There is a good sized area fenced for the dogs and outside this area is where I let my 21 week old hens free range. Sometimes the hens jump the fence and the...

    Buff Orpington

So sorry about your BO becoming mean. My roosters never became mean to me but the alpha rooster was biting the hens and attacking the beta rooster. I am not aloud to have roosters where I am so they are now gone. I gave them to a person that responded to my ad on craigs list. Was a very sad...

    First Eggs

I have the one hen laying out of six and I don't hear any egg song either. I have now limited their free ranging to a couple hours in the evening as I have to keep my eyes on them and they tend to wander into the neighbors yard and even once into my front yard flower bed. I keep them in the...

    First Eggs

I use golf balls. They are harder and heavier than plastic eggs. If they are burying them that means they are moving the straw around and preparing for that first egg!! Are they also EE?

    First Eggs

Thank you flock master. I had read that if you rub a chickens belly that it would put them to sleep so I had to try and you can see she is shutting her eyes. LOL Try it. I just turned her over on my lap and she fussed for a few seconds then stopped. She had no choice!! She really did enjoy...
