Atwater Minnesota - cruelty to chickens - someone needs to change this.

http://www.atwaterchamber.com/city%20government.html I sent emails to all the council members and the Mayor. "The Atwater police chief has clearly showed the public what kind of city Atwater is, and it is no place the I would want myself, my family, or my friends to visit. After reading about...

    DIY automatic coop door

I thought about the light sensitive switch as well, however I read that a storm or a cloudy day could trick it into thinking it was dark and cause the door to close. If there are options for sensitivity on the switch, I suppose you could adjust it to only close when it is very dark.

    DIY automatic coop door

I saw that too, and I do really want hubby to put it together for me. Maybe someday soon, today he is putting in the chicken cam so I can check on them when I'm at work. And for now I feel ok since the door opens into the run that we covered completely with 1/4 hardware cloth, including in the...

The hens and chicks know each other well, but...HELP!!

I feel your pain, my babies are 9 weeks old now and the older girls that they are "living" with are 15 weeks. I put them together when the babies were 4 weeks old and originally kept them with the big girls but inside a small cage in the coop so they could not be harmed. I watched them at...

    DIY automatic coop door

Since 6am is way to early for me and hubby, and sine I know my chickens will organize against us if they aren't let out in time, we decided to go automatic. Now I sure did want one of those $300 ones, but hubby said it was too much. After scouring the forums and YouTube I found the door made...

Food grade diatomacious earth made a huge difference in my run. I also use sticky fly strips and the stinky fly trap/jug.

    Black spots on comb!

I'm far from an expert but from what I've read it looks like a fungal infection. Maybe someone else can weigh in on this. My chicken also has one small black spot, I put some antifungal cream on it.

What do Light Brahma Chicks look like?

Thank you, baby chicks always make melt! Unfortunately, I think that the Brahmas hatch with feathered feet, but I'm definitely no expert. I would email the picks the hatchery. And I'm sure there are some experts here that can give you some information. In the meantime, have fun with your babies!

What do Light Brahma Chicks look like?

Just yesterday I found myself asking the same question. I went to our local farm and fleet store, saw the same breeds that I wanted and I was so excited. I got two Easter Eggers (so cute!) and what I was told by the "kid" (who clearly didn't care or know) that the last one was a Light Brahma. It...

I'm so excited to be a new chicken mommy!

Thanks for the warm welcome and the helpful suggestions. We did decide to move out of the storage tub and into a kiddie pool ( a idea I got from another members post) and it is working out wonderfully. They are running, playing, digging and jumping. Did I mention this is all taking place in my...

BROODER thread! Post pics of your brooders!

There are so many amazing examples of brooders for our babies! I started with the storage tote for my 6 chicks but they quickly grew out of that and we graduated to a kiddy pool.

I'm so excited to be a new chicken mommy!

I have wanted back yard chickens for a few years and I finally took the plunge, and I'm so glad I did it. My hubby and teenage kids are just as thrilled as I am with these fuzzy little chicks. I have been using Backyard Chickens as a resource since I got them two weeks ago and so I figured I...
