Hey, these are two barred Plymouth Rock which are 6 weeks turning 7 weeks. It’s a bit early still. However when viewing them from the top one was a lot darker and one was lighter (could be one is maturing later?). The lighter one has a smaller comb and waddle. The darker one has a larger waddle...
it’s just aweful. For her to go out that way. Literally killed by her own son and was about to turn 9years old. She had a beautiful life. My first chicken too.
Treats and food and slowly approach and redirect with a few people. Mine do anything for food :) occasionally that last chicken you leave until night fall and hope you can scoop it up and put it into the coop.
Thank you all, for your words and tips. I think he will have to go 😔. I don’t want anyone else to get hurt or the dog. He attacked me again, this time he ran into the butterfly net. He just kept charging at me when I got him into the enclosure.
Even when I think he is intimidated by me, he...
Rooster advice please. I’m on the fence with this boy and have been for over a year. He attacked his father last year , once he turned 1year old, so we caged him to his own coop in view of everyone. His dad (father rooster) passed away in February.
Today I decided to try and see if he can do...
Diet hasn’t changed , she gets her pellets, mixed grain, oyster shell and veggies. Now they are free ranging and eating the same things that’s been in the yard (no pesticides).
Thank you, mites have been a constantly battle , with the sparrows. Right now her feathers look great , same with the other ladies. I’m thinking reproductive , what can be done for that? When I got back from vacation the person who watched over them said she was oozing from the back. I didn’t...
Hi! My oldest hen is starting to act a bit off. She laid one egg last month and has been eating and drinking and pooping normal. However she is off balance a bit when she walks and uses her wings to stabilize or catch her self. Any one ever dealt with something similar ? She is grazing right...
I am in the market for a new coop and was wondering if anyone has used the galvanized steel storage shed as a coop. I am on the East coast, NY state. I’ve seen some use open sheds for horses to get away from the wind and rain. I just wanted to ask if anyone has used it and if it worked out? I...
I recommend a vet checking it. I had my silkie end up with a slip tendon. She was given a steroid to help with the inflammation. For her it didn’t help, but my vet tried. She passed away a few years ago from it. Lasted maybe 2 weeks after her first shot.
I put my senior hen in the garage tonight. She only had one friend on the perch and she wasn’t next to her. She’s over 8 years old. My small flock is still outside in their coop. I have two coops. I’ll merge them all next year.
I do suggest straw for warmth. But the coop should have ventilation...
Thank you for the link, I will give that an order. We did betadine last week. But after seeing the abscess back. We’ve been trying everything to disinfect it.
Thank you Chicken poppy. Where did you purchase tricide-neo? The vet wrapped is good, it hasn't come off and the coop is dried. The infection seems deeply rooted inside. And every time we cleaned it, we are trying so hard to get all that gunk out so that it doesn't rebuild again. I will try to...
3 of my hens have really bad bumble feet. I’ve lost one already. We have been opening the abscess, pulling the corn, cleaning it with epson bath soak, hydrogen peroxide, antibiotic ointment and vet wrap. Two weeks in and it’s still showing up badly on two hens. The other one is not to bad. The...
Thank you @ Regina Larsen and jedjackson. Thank you for sharing that information. Will fallow up with treatment. Any recommendations on how to get into the really deep area? Or would the cleanings help push it up/out?
