The cost of the necropsy here is $85.00 plus the shipping, which is a lot of money to me and has been holding me back from sending. :/
If this last one passes though, I will for sure send her in. I haven't given her anything supplemental but electrolytes since she's been sick.
I know that this is a common question, as everyone always supplies Marek's as a possible cause of illness.
I've had three hens die, and another is currently sick, all within the last 2 months. Each one is showing different symptoms from the last and it's really throwing me for a loop. My...
Looks like you have a feather picker. One or multiple of your birds is picking the feathers on the others. Google 'feather picking'. Also check for mites/lice, as I've found that they can be an underlying cause.
Ugh, I went through this last year and it was horrible. Every time they started to grow back someone would pick them out.
I BlueKoted and rooster boostered every day.. and I finally bought them all saddles to cover the bald patches. When the weather started getting warmer they eventually...
Sounds like you're doing things right.
One thing you'll learn over the course of chicken ownership is that sometimes they die for no apparent reason.
I would only worry if any of the others start acting strange! (lethargic, loss of appetite, etc). Maybe throw some vitamins in the water if...
As everyone with chickens understands, it's always one thing or another.
I had a chicken acting slightly off recently. I separated her and have been taking care of her as she slowly declines.
She is about a year old Easter Egger. Was laying last year but still hasn't started laying again...
So after a day in quarantine being given nutri drench, she was able to stand and hold her balance.
Over the last couple days though that's been the only improvement. She is still wobbly when walking and is making almost a purring/clicking type noise. If she tries to preen or stretch out one...
She doesn't have any of those symptoms really... just cant walk. :/
I moved them into the coop last Saturday, and up till then there was nothing strange fecal wise. I saw the sick chick poop earlier and it was one of the healthiest looking I've seen. She's still all about the food and water so I...
Just went and checked on her. She seems a little worse. When I set her down she just falls over, can walk a tiny bit if I force her, but otherwise struggles.
She's totally alert and vocal though. She pushes against my hand with her legs to try and escape me so it's not like she's paralyzed. She...
I just moved my four 9 week old and three 6 week olds inside the coop in a separate grow out pen. They've been in there for almost a week now and were doing fine (other than managing to tip their waterer no matter how I hung or set it ) but this morning one of the younger ones was crouched down...
I will be getting Coturnix quail in the near future and I have a couple questions!
We happen to have 18 wire bottom pens lining the walls of our back garage. They are about 4 ft long by 2.5 ft deep each and even have dropping catchers below. I had totally and utterly forgotten they were there...
Friend has a: 'Thermo Scientific Lab line imperial III' Incubator that I'm wondering whether it could be used to hatch eggs.
It's was made for scientific samples and I know you can control temperature... but I'm wondering if people think you'd be able to convert it to a hatching device. Mostly...
Thanks for the kind words!! Trefoil: It's really steep and snow hasn't been sticking so far.. I'll cross my fingers. It's projects like these that make me realize how little I know about building!
I am an all around animal lover. My parents....not so much. Every house hold pet was either brought in through guilt tripping (death of a hamster led to a rabbit, death of the rabbit led to cockatiels...) or snuck in under false pretenses (we are just watching this kitten until my friend can...
One of my 7 month old hens randomly died while roosting last night. Found her this morning on the tray below the roost.
I looked her over for any physical signs of death but didn't really see anything. These are my first chickens and I've raised them all since hatch. It's my first loss.. and...
