@Featherforest im unsure, heres a picture of my guy approx 5wks. Hes right around 8wks now. Are you 100% sure yours is a cockerel? Do you have any close up shots?
5-6wks old
Hi Traci!
Im very new too! Lets compare! Lol. Id say yours looks more like a cockerel compared to mine. Mines the same age...but im NO expert!
Also ive read that their behavior cant determine their sex. BUT I believe with my current batch of chicks... the ones I THINK are cockerels have BIG...
Im in Summit Co Ohio, I have

1 Grey Silkie
1 White Silkie
Straight Run
(Guessing Cockerels but I COULD be wrong)

Ooo darn, im thinking another lil cockerel in a city that only allows one. LOL. And im 90% sure 2 of my 6 of my silkies are lil roos ; /
In the meantime I love watching them grow & getting to know each personality!
Im very thrilled to hear its a common trait of the breed!
Now where to order MORE ; )
Trying to avoid hatcheries if possible & buy from a breeder instead.
Actually..
Heres some quick shots for you all. Better lighting : )
I agree! They say silkies are the lap chickens...but this one has me thinking ; )
I could be wrong...but im thinking blue.
Now lets keep fingers cross its a pullet! : 0
I think he/she is gonna be a looker either way for...
Sooo ive been told I have a cochin! Im IN LOVE! This little one is the sweetest thing! She's approx 8wks. Im wondering color? I've been told black & recently blue?
What's your opinion?
Id love to hear! Im VERY interested in getting more ; )
Maybe Blue?! I sure hope so! That's exciting news!
I guess she does have white/pale grey markings around the face and is a 'faded' dark black/greyish color all over?!
Im new to this, so thanks for your help & patience ; )
Unsure if the breed is known to be docile & friendly (I have some research...
Im leaning towards a black cochin. He/She is SO sweet. Smaller then my silkies. They are all around 8wks. She/He has feathered out fairly quickly compared to the rest.
My FAVORITE chicken...I'd love to get more!
Tell me your thoughts ; )
