That makes me feel better. She and her sister look exactly the same, same size (smaller than the first chick) and no dots on their heads as day olds. Just couldn't figure out if this was what it says it was breed wise. I'm interested to see what it looks like in a few more weeks.
Thank you! I knew it just couldn't be a sapphire or BR with those heavily feathered feet. I have a super strong feeling with the large dot on its head as a small chick that it was probably a male, but couldn't confirm.
I have approximately a 6 week old chick I was told was a sapphire gem. Do you think it is a BR, Sapphire, or Cuckoo? Feathered feet, which I have never seen on other BRs I've had. I also think it is actually a roo because the comb is already starting to turn red and stands larger than my others...
This is our first time with this breed. Normally by now we have known in the past. The biggest thing Im noticing is that the 2 I think are cockerels are starting to grow a slightly larger comb that is turning bright red, the other 2 are not. One is more bold. I did not know they were a slow...
I have 4 Brahma chicks. 2 dark and 2 light. I'm thinking 2 are pullets and 2 are roos. They are all between 10 and 11weeks old. What do you guys think? I numbered them in the pics.
I'm thinking
#1: pullet
#2: cockerel
#3: cockerel
#4pullet
A few more pics. Im really leaning towards the Welsummer! I just saw a pic of one pretty much the same age and they are identical, down to the black speck on the beak! Im pretty positive she is NOT a red leghorn as Atwoods said. The comb is still not red or pink, so Im still leaning towards...
My frizzle is only losing the feathers at the back of her neck. She did not do this last summer, only now. We have no roosters, but one other hen shes been with since birth and I have never seen them peck each other. She dust bathes regularly and i have not been able to discover lice, fleas, or...
I ordered 2 hens from McMurray Hatchery along with a friend's huge order. However, within 1 day, one of the chicks died, leaving my Barred Rock female all alone and crying constantly. So, in order to fix the issue, I went to the local Atwoods and purchased what I was told was a female Red...
I'm pretty positive I've identified my darker hen as an Australorp. She looks identical to a photo I found of one, just smaller. She also have those darker feet like the one in the photo, I checked today. Anyone disagree? As for the other I'm pretty positive she's a Buff mix. My neighbor has...
I had a feeling that the tan colored one (Chatterbox) was a Buff Orpington. She is smaller than others I've seen so maybe she's a little younger than I thought she was. She probably is mixed, as she was part of a big group of free range chickens, so there's no telling! Though, I did find a few...
OHHH, so what I thought was a Rhode Island White (that's what I was told she was) is actually a leghorn? Wow! She's extremely docile and so that makes sense. Her "brother" I just had to give away, because he was a rooster. He may have been mixed because he had some tan colored feathers on his...
It's strange how dark she/he is and has the dark topped feet. Same color as a barred hen would be and not much larger than my RIW who is just about 2 weeks younger then her/him. Either she or my RIW is laying large white eggs, not many but some. I feel like my RIW, being a few weeks behind...
BY THE WAY MY THREAD SHOULD SAY OUT NOT PUT!! SORRY!
I have a frizzle hen and 2 new hens I need help with figuring out what they are! I have no clue of the breed. Someone is laying small pinkish eggs but I don't know if its one of my new hens or my frizzle. Help?
I agree she looks to dark to be a rooster. Every barred rooster I've ever seen is much lighter. She is very dark black. I've been told she was a rooster just because of the comb but there is so much more to identification then a comb. I have a feeling since she grew up with her rooster buddy and...
So, I've posted in the past trying to get help with identification. I believe that I now know what to look for in identifying a rooster. That being said, I'm now confused and think I may have a "crowing" hen. I know this isn't uncommon, but here's the situation. I had a very dominant rooster...
I attempted to check the BR to see if she was getting closer to laying and she would not cooperate! Lol I appreciate all the input and if anyone else has opinions I would greatly appreciate them!
That was my thought too. The barred should be getting really close to laying. She makes no kind of sounds other than a deep throaty whining when you pick her up and pet her. Kind of like when a cat purrs. She's very round and although her comb came in the same time as "Red's" it seems to have...
