Thankyou! I got them from a breeder here in CA. She is trying to get frizzles recognized as their own breed instead of variety. I'm definitely going to breed the paint when I can find some suitable unrelated birds. I don't want to breed her to her lesser quality possible sibs.
I have 5 frizzled silkies. They are 2 months old.what do you think?
I am pretty sure Chandler is a girl.
Derpy is the biggest. I think it's a boy.
Clare I think is a boy too. It has a little bit of red growing in the hackles and crest.
Sentinel used to be the most friendly bird but has...
Day 20 silkie eggs are pipping the shell but seem unable to break through the membrane. 2 eggs started yesterday and 3 more today. The membranes are opaque white. I've had them at 70% humidity since day 18 but they seem to be drying out. The incubator is homemade forced air and the temp has...
How's your hatch going?
I found some local eggs and got one heck of a deal. I bought a dozen and ended up with 31 eggs. With chance of a paint too! I now have 25 in my incubator and 6 under a broody hen. I might have used up my luck for the year... If the power goes out and my broody quits, I...
All the blood and yolk were absorbed and his beak was clear. He was ready. The humidity was around 70 before I open it and the inside of the air cell was dry... Further down it was not.
My bad egg died early and my good egg died without external pip. I opened it up and his beak was clear, but he was dead... I was right when I thought he piped early, but I never heard him peep, so I left him alone...

No pips or peeps...yet. Lol this waiting game is killing me. I'm absolutely sure my weird egg is dead, but my good egg is still kicking. I really hope it's not malpositioned! All of my cousin''s eggs were. 14 were unable to pip.
Most of the listings are $70 per dozen. I think I got discount...
My goodness you are a brave person! Most of the listings over here are far out of my price range. I'm hatching, because I cant get a hold of a silkie chick. All the hatcheries closed production in July, and nobody I know has any. I bought one back in April and she was the best bird I have ever...
Oh my! I can only imagine what that cost emotionally and financially . How far were they being shipped? Almost all the ads silkies I saw were in SC. All the local sellers in CA were reduculously priced.
It looks like I have an internal pip and the other isn't moving anymore... I think it died.
Congrats on you hatch last week! How was it?
Thank you so much for replying. I've realy been stressing out about them. Shipped eggs haven't been kind to my family this year. My cousin only got one baby out of 25 shipped polish eggs last week.
Wow! I never knew they could do that! I wouldn't put it passed a scrub jay. They are bratty birds who kill baby chicks for the hell of it. My father in law lost an entire batch of chicks being raised by a broody in this yard.
Throughout incubation they have developed at the same rate, but as of yesterday I have noticed that one egg is developing much faster and the other is rather see through with veins that seem to be receding. The embryo is still moving and kicking. Its not dead... I haven't been able to find any...
I have been noticing that lately I been loosing eggs. I have a little coop with a nest box in it. I have my two hens trained to jump up into it to lay. The last few days I haven't gotten a single egg, so I thought mebe they were laying else ware, but the coop is near my bedroom window and I hear...
