Thank you! I washed off some matted feathers this morning and then applied Bacitracin to the area, especially where the skin meets the muscle. He's in the coop with his ladies resting. I hope he makes it. He is a tough bird.
Hello all.
Not looking for criticism. I've read many threads now about keeping dogs, especially puppies with free range fowl. I understand that it is my job to adequately train my canine to behave well and obey only my commands when he goes for "prey". He is a 6 month Akita Inu. We adopted him...
If you don't mind my asking, how did it the slaughter go?
I'm a first time butcherer as well and wonder if you can give and tips that weren't already covered in your thread. My babe is an older roo, about 17 weeks, and I'm taking the advice of skinning him as best I can. At least then I can...
NewChickenMom2014, I am in the same boat! Started my first flock in early Feb. Purchased a straight run of mixed chicks. We ended up with some beautiful roosters and only 2 hens. I returned my two sweetest roos, who would snuggle together and guard the yard, keeping only J- my roo from Hell.

Thanks again for everyone's feedback. I've had to seperate the two large males (Pan/Penny and Louie) at night to dampen their crows. Just letting them out after the neighborhood wakes up.
Luckily we will not be eating our chicks this time. The farm I bought them from will take the males back...
Daisy is one of our sweetest...I can take another shot tomorrow, but this is the best I have now. I can tell you her comb has multiple ridges and is a light flesh-colored pink, not red like the other roos. Are you all sure about Jezebelle? She is the 3rd pic and Chocobo is 2nd. Thanks again for...
She's so pretty already. We can't keep roosters here and I'm dreading the ultimate slaughter....Still considering re-homing them but not being pure breeds makes them hard to sell. Thanks for confirming their genders :)
Thank you for the feedback. Deep down I knew that was the case. I have 3 more I'm now questioning. All of my babes are 11 weeks. Daisy is an EE I think because of the muff around her neck. Could she be a cockerel? Jezebelle is my crazy girl and is looking very large for a lady. She is getting...
Thanks for looking. This is my first post! Reading forums has helped but I'm stuck.
Two of my "girls" have been crowing. I have attached pictures of both. Penny is grey turning brown, I was told an Olive Egger but not sure. The second, Loosey Goosey (or Lou) is the B&W speckled one. They are...
