Well that's just it- we wondered how on earth she could swallow a whole duckling!! It is very alarming, and I am just so thankful we caught her before she digested the remaining two ducklings.
We are currently in contact with some biologists from MSU to see if they have studied this behavior...

Why thank you! Yes, we do raise Anconas. Our orignial stock started from Holderreads a few years back, but we have not added to new stock to our herd recently. I do know that Holderreads no longer raises Anconas, but I am not sure where you could find another larger breeder of them. We...
If your looking for a TRUE LGD, Great Pyrenees or Kuvas. I have done some research lately on GP/Komondor crosses. Hear they are excellent.
Other than a true LGD, Border Collies, Aussies, Cattle Dogs, etc are great with livestock. Good Luck!
typically we figure that you drop the temp of the heat 5* each week. So, at week four, they would be comfortable around 75*. We have put ducks at this age outside before, but we just watch them to make sure they are not too cold. I guess it depends on your weather, too
My younger brother raises Silver Appleyards. This year he set some SA eggs under some white appleyards (his pets! LOL) to incubate. Things seemed great- mom had 6 eggs all developing under her. 2 weeks ago, only 5 eggs. I first though snake, since the egg just dissapeared. No big deal, still...
I personally like my Anconas better. In my experience, they are quieter, less flighty, better layers than Magpies. Plus, they are a bit heavier, so they are more of an all purpose duck.
As for markings- do you want to show? showing magpies results in alot more selection, IMO, than Anconas...
I have had Cayugas, and really enjoyed them. In fact, after I sold them, I missed them so much, I am going to keep a trio or two around again.
Ours were EXCELLENT foragers, and very gentle and personable. They layed decent sized eggs, not as often as our Anconas, but layed relatively consitently.
Well first off, I have Anconas...lol as implied by my username. They are the best ducks on the planet! I have a few other breeds, but my Anconas are ecspecially wonderful! These ducks are my passion! I have a relatively large flock of blues, blacks, lavenders, and chocolates, and it's my goal...
Thanks everyone. That is what we were thinking, but we have a BUNCH of leftover cedar shavings from a project, and wanted to see if we could put them to use instead of throwing them away.
We have a drake that was beat up by another drake of ours. Underneath the eye the scratched and some of the feathers are left. They actually eye looked sore at first, but now he keeps it mostly closed and is "foamy" in appearance.
Is there anything we should give him? Eye drops?
As I understand, they were admitted by variety. AKC is not letting that happen much, if at all anymore.
The seperate colors have almost, in a sense, turned into seperate types. The heads and body vary a little from each variety, not much, but a little.
