She doesn't seem to be in pain. I'll give her electrolytes and see what happens.

    Chicken legs not working

My 6 month old Welsummer's legs aren't working. The past few days she's been constantly squatting like she wants a rooster. Yesterday and today she's been hiding behind things. I hand fed her and gave her water. She ate and drank a lot. We brought her inside and her legs are bent at her elbows...

    Baby chicks pecking

Do you have a red bulb in your heat lamp? The guy at Agway told me it helps keep the pecking down as they can't see the blood.

    What is spraddled splay legs

The band-aid treatment works! I had a chick a couple of years ago with splayed legs and I used that method and it fixed the problem. I still have the chicken- we named her Gimpy.

How long do mail order chicks take to arrive?

Call the Post Office and tell them to notify you as soon as they arrive. My PO let me contact the distribution center (one town over) and I requested that they contact me as soon as the chicks arrived. The called me ASAP (I could hear peeping in the background) and I left immediately. My were...

Are the baby chicks suppose to sleep like this?

70 is warm for humans but chicks need 90 degrees their first week then 85 their second week, 80 the 3rd week etc. You were lucky your last chicks survived. Please put a heating pad in with them and get a heat lamp as soon as you can! Good luck!

    Pullets or Cockerels?

Thanks for the input! So far we love the EE. She has the best personality- very outgoing and friendly which made me think she might be a he. Also their tails are curled over a bit. That's why I needed some expert advise.

Please help me determine whether all of my pullets are pullets. I had them sexed before I purchased them but you never know.... I'm only keeping 3 so I'd like to make sure I pick pullets. They are 6 weeks old. Thanks! Columbian Wyandotte 1 Columbian Wyandotte 2 Easter Egger Welsummer 1...

Gossie- Yes I made them. I just cut a piece of fleece that I bought at Walmart for less than $3.00. Very cheap and easy.

    EGGCITED!! Ordered my babies yesterday!

I have 3 Australorps and one Barred Rock. They are all very friendly and spoiled rotten. The BR is at the top of the pecking order- she's the biggest. She doesn't really like to be picked up but will tolerate it. She's VERY food motivated and is always the first one to come running to me for treats.
