My hens are raping each other - Questions on isolation??

They are definitely female; they both lay eggs. Though when they were young, we were afraid the ringleader was sexed wrong because she was bigger, louder (not quiet crowing sounds, but louder and a slightly different sound than the others), and more adventurous and aggressive than the others...

My hens are raping each other - Questions on isolation??

I have a flock of nine: 1 Golden Laced Wyandotte, 1 Barred Plymouth Rock, 1 Rhode Island Red, 3 Tetra Tints, and 3 Golden Comets. Two of the Tetra Tints have been raping my other girls. The Wyanotte, Plymouth Rock, and Rhode Island Red are a year older than the others and were established as a...

    Pullet attacking other pullet

Have any of them started laying yet? I have 6 16 week old pullets, and since one started laying, she's been pretty snippy with the other 5, pecking at them and stuff. Nothing too extreme though. She just thinks she's a big girl now, haha. If the aggressive one just started laying or is more...

    They attack on her Que..

I've had a similar problem. We spray the ring leader with a water mister whenever she picks on the pullets. My Barred Rock joins in sometimes, but my Golden Laced Wyandotte is definitely the leader. One of my younger girls just started laying, and she seems to be able to fend for herself a...

5 hens all the same age.

Your five pullets probably won't all start laying at the same time, especially if they're not the same breed. I have 6 the same age at the moment. I've got the first egg from one of them mid June, and she's only laid one since. Another one started laying last week and has laid three eggs so...

Barred Plymouth Rock Hens Laying Occasional Pink Egg?

Not sure why, but I have a Barred Plymouth Rock and she does lay creamy pinkish eggs sometimes!

    Breed Recommendations for a newbie

My Golden Laced Wyandotte is also mean to the other girls and avoids human contact at all costs. And she's from a farm! My hatchery girls have been much nicer!

    Breed Recommendations for a newbie

I have a RIR and three Golden Comets. One of my Comets is the friendliest, but my RIR is definitely friendlier than the others. My RIR comes running whenever we come outside waiting for treats. One of my Comets loves to be picked up and will fall asleep in my arms. She is so adorable. Don't...

Help! Pullet suddenly acting odd and quiet.

Sometimes when chickens start laying, they act a little funny and lay weird eggs (no shells, "fairy eggs" or eggs with no yolk, soft shells, small eggs, etc.). It's possible your chicken is starting to lay and had one of these weird incidents and she just laid egg white. Keep an eye on her to...

    First eggs why so small?

If they just started laying, it's normal for the first few to be small. Also the breed might lay smaller eggs. I'm not sure what breed you have there, but I would suggest looking up to see what is normal for the breed.

    Laying eggs from the roost

One of my hens laid her egg from one of the highest roosts in the coop this morning. Their coop is a shed, so it was pretty high, and obviously it fell and broke on the floor. It was one of my 16 week old Tetra Tints. One of them has already started laying and has always laid in the nesting...

Comment by 'misslys15' in article 'Quick Guide to Treating Egg Binding'

I think one of my girls has diarrhea, but none of their bottoms look swollen and none of their feathers are all wet with it like in the picture. All their feather look normal, though some are a bit messy. I've just found a couple spots of diarrhea around. I'm not sure which of my girls it is...

Comment by 'misslys15' in article 'Common egg quality problems'

I get speckled eggs from a few of my hens, but not all of them. They just eat normal layer feed, snacks that we give them (mostly fruit and oatmeal, never any processed food), and whatever worms, bugs, grass, etc. they can find. They all eat the same thing, so I can't imagine the three hens...

    Weird egg?

Oh no, she's definitely healthy. I'm not worried about that. Just wondering what it is. And I have read that article in the past, but it doesn't seem to match up to any of those issues.

    Weird egg?

My 16 week old Tetra Tint just started laying. She laid one egg the other day which was small (which I expected), but completely normal. She just laid her second egg, also small, but it had something on it. I rinsed it off, and whatever it was came off in one piece, and the egg underneath...

    Chicken leashes?

We are debating on setting up something like this for a Christmas card picture. We have 9 hens, so it's perfect haha

    Chicken-safe paint

I've read that pretty much any paint should be safe for chickens as long as it's dry. Are there any that are safe while wet as while? Obviously I won't be feeding it to my hens or anything, but if they were to step in it or something like that?

Homesteading with bees. Do they bother your chickens?

Oh they are completely aware that we do not like their dogs in our yard. We confront them every time we see it. They are not decent people.

    stumbling birds, acting semi paralyzed

Take at least one of them to the vet. Even if they were all randomly stung by scorpions at the same time, it's better knowing that than having a contagious disease in your flock. It sounds like it might be Marek's disease to me, but no one on here can tell you for sure what it is without...

    Please help! PICS

I can't tell you what breed it is, and only an expert could sex a chick at that age unless it's a sex-link breed (the male and the female are different colors when they hatch). You can ask the person who gave it to you what it was sold to them as. If it was a "pullet," that means it's female...
