I have planters that I have caged in with chicken wire to keep animals out. If I plant potato's in the and the leaves are up against the wire. Are my girls at risk?
The girls feet look white and scally. I feel like such an idiot for not testing the waterer like I did every day last winter
How best to safely hydrate the chickens?
Anything I should add to water?
They had some cooked carrots, shredded lettuce yester day and some cut open pumpkin the day...
Last moth my girls molted. Then last week we had a heat wave in the 90s. The all started pulling their under coat to cool down. The coop and run looks like a pillow fight.
In three days the nighttime temp is going to be 35.
Should I be worried?
Our white easter egger Finaly started laying but she is a menace.
She goes in the nesting box and shoves or steps on any other chicken in there till they leave
And she will try to kick their eggs out of the box.
How can I curbe this behavior so we do not have cracked eggs?
We had our first egg today. It was a social even attended quite loudly by the whole flock.
The small Laura spent an hour truing to decide where to lay. To our dismay it was not in the Nesting boxes she checked out over and over where we have some plastic mats designed to prevent breakage. But...
I have tries sprouting wheat twice and both times it smelled horrible by day 4 and was a slimy mess on the bottom
The tray I have has about one hole per 6 inches and it water drains quickly
What am I doing wrong?
oh we got it out but she seems to like to scare us about it now.. twice I have had to chase her down to remove what looks like the end of a feather but turns out to be a piece of wood chip she is holding in her beak like a cigar.
I live outside of Omaha and the local winters are all over the place when it comes to wrather
I was wondering when or based on what forecast determines when to wrap the run with plastic?
I have six 5 week old easter eggers and this morning there was some excitement in the brooder with Lara running around with something sticking out of her beak with the others chasing her. Turns out what looked like small stick was the base of a 4 inch feather.
not sure if it was plucked or...
we have week old chicks. and they tend to distress call if someone is not in the room with them.
as soon as we approach the brooder they calm down.
is this normal?
the local laws say
The chicken facility and run shall comply with all applicable city building and zoning codes and must be consistent with the requirements of any land use regulation
then the building code section To provide certain minimum standards, provisions, and requirements for safe and...
I could not find any threads on the issue so I'm asking
We are looking to start raising chickens
Not far from our property is a railroad crossing and the trains tend to lean on their horns.
How will the train noise effect the chickens?
