Yes. It may depend on what part of AR but here in NEA,I pretty well never have to add water except a little bit at lockdown.

    Arkansas folks speak up.........

Thanks! Are there any others on here in the NEA area? I'm needing hatching eggs and can't seem to find any local. Planning to set my incubator up for a 2nd grade class so they can learn all about incubation, chick development and hatching.

The 8th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!!!!

@BantyChooksWell candled my eggs on day 7 and....NOTHING! Either they got too chilled before incubation or its hit and miss with my rooster's fertility. I did a test hatch before this and had 13/14 hatch. All these have been from my own flock. So now I've got to find some more eggs and set it...

Today is day 7 and all looks well! Yay! Have 18 in....4 are from my Ameracauna and didn't see any veining or anything so thinking they may be infertile. She just started laying again not long ago. 13 look great and lots of movement. 1 has good, healthy looking veining but couldn't see the...

Eye problem- 3 week old chick

@FoodFreedomNow Thanks for the ideas. I'll have to see if I can come up with something. The little chickie is so small but maybe I can find something that will work. I found a vet here that will treat chickens but they charge $50+ just to look at it. So won't be going that route. As of now, I'm...

Eye problem- 3 week old chick

@teaton I've done a course of oxytetracycline along with ofloxacin drops in the eye. Also did VetRx several times. Neosporin, silver solution, and even tried nystatin on the eye in case it was something fungal. I've washed it out numerous times with warm vetericyn solution. These were all things...

Eye problem- 3 week old chick

Update....still treating this poor little chick and the eye is getting worse instead of better :-( Good news, there is no odor or anything and the chick is eating and drinking well and definitely has the spunk to put up a fight when I'm treating the eye. Bad news, still no clue what is going on...

Eye problem- 3 week old chick

@teaton Yes, thanks, I looked it up after you mentioned it and saw how to use it. @MasterOfClucker I hope not. So far it doesn't seem to have any of the other symptoms, nor any new birds that could have brought it in. But I will keep watching this little one and check on the others to be sure no...

Eye problem- 3 week old chick

@teatonI'm not sure. I tried pulling the eyelids apart to look but it's so swollen I can't hardly pry it open to look :-( In case it is, how would I know and what can I do?

Eye problem- 3 week old chick

Late last week, my 3 week old barred rock chick's eye was suddenly swollen. No problems before and this chick is from our flock. Our one other chick and the rest of the flock are all doing great. It's only this chick and only one eye. I immediately removed it from the coop, washed the eye out...

    What breed is this?

Thank you all! I know it's highly possible it could just be a mixture of breeds. We had gotten 4 eggs from a local person to incubate ourselves but this one the only one to survive to hatch. If it helps any, this chick hatched from a light brown egg. And the person we got the eggs from don't...
