Foxes can climb..? I think I will wait until the eggs are starting to hatch, then somehow put a cage over her and the nest, then assist them all down! Fingers crossed! ;) I have another peahen who has also dissapeared, but I haven't found out where she sits yet..
Oh that is so sad, what a shame that the eggs didn't hatch... Poor Mary-Jane and Spiderman! (Love the names!) Hopefully they'll try again next year! Xx
Keets!! They are the cutest chicks ever! I love to see how all the hens nest together and hatch a huge clutch! The keets are sooo tiny! Sadly they are also very fragile, but still out flock grows every year. They travel all around and eat everything! I hardly need to feed them. I dream of having...
Hi, thanks for the picture Dany12! That's great! What is that structure, is it specially made for peahen nesting? How do the babies get down, do they just jump off?
Bluchick2u, thanks for the info, I might have to think of something else then! I think there is no point trying to move her, I...
Hi, I'm after some advice from experienced peafowl people :)
One of my peahens has made a nest and laid eggs on top of a shed (outside of my yard). This is the first time they have laid eggs, they are only 2 years old, the male is 3. She sits on the eggs and comes down regularly to eat, then...
Hi, sorry I haven't checked in for a while and didn't realise there were new replies!
I can't find the facebook post anymore now, but I do remember that after I posted this, a new reply was posted by someone who said the same thing as some of you: it's a spalding hen.
That sounds very...
Hi - I just wanted to say that I posted these pictures in a facebook peafowl group and everyone without exception said it was a male. So I am convinced now and getting him a girlfriend. :)
Thanks for your comment, Dany12! I'm still not sure though... What about the barring on the feathers and the rusty flight feathers? Also, sometimes his neck feathers do look blue. This is a photo from the front:
The reason I want to be sure is I want to get him/her a friend of the opposite...
Hi, I have a 4 month old India blue peachick with some sex confusion. He is incubator hatched, there were two but the second one was grabbed by a dog... Now "Walter" is always alone, he doesn't connect to the older peafowl (1-2 years). I want to get him a friend but want to be sure first what...
Hi, I have a 3 month old silkie that I can't figure out..! Really hoping it's a hen because I already have a Silkie roo! (The grey one) The white one is much smaller than him and still peeps and behaves like a chick. The roo acts protective towards the chick and calls it to eat, but I don't know...
Those could work! Thank you, @Ardj !
These seem mostly intended for dairy farmers, though... I was hoping for something more specifically for backyard flocks/herds. But it is definitely better than anything I could find!
Hi! I'm looking for an app to help organise/manage my animals - does anyone use anything like that? At the moment, I use a Word file on my computer, along with the calendar and notifications on my phone and my actual mental memory... but it doesn't work as well as I would like. I forget stuff, I...

Hope you all like it! English is not my native language, so there might be mistakes that I haven't noticed. Feel free to point them out to me :)

I used to think guinea fowl were just chickens with polka dots, but nothing is further from the truth! Guinea fowl are quite a bit different from chickens in appearance and behaviour. In this article, I will try to outline in what ways guinea fowl are different and why, how and where to keep and...
I'm planning to write an introduction to keeping guinea fowl :)
Not as experienced as many others here but will do my best and lots of research! :)
Hoping to post it soon!
