I didn't know the commercial feeds were so bad for the chickens. I live in northern MN off the tip of Lake Superior so I have the possibility of Avian Flu landing my backyard. As far as I know though, it has only been found in western MN, but it is still scary.
Just brought my birds back from county fair yesterday, and there were some birds there that had lice. I checked my birds and didn't see any. Where should I put the poultry dust? On the floor or on the chickens?
I've been showing at the local county fair and thought I'd share my results. I got reserve champion on my brown egg production pen of RSLs and 4th overall in the 4-H Poultry Show.
Egg song, oh beautiful egg song! My RSL Ariel is my absolute favorite chicken. She will be the first to lay an egg is my guess. She squatted yesterday and today she's singing!
I don't think you would have a problem doing that if everything goes according to the plan. The only problems are your muscovies might not go broody and if the eggs do hatch the muscovy could get mad at you for taking her "babies". Water might still be frozen in March so the chicks wouldn't have...
I'm officially a rooster!:weee I was out feeding the girls and when I walked up behind one of the RSL pullets not even thinking anything of it and she squatted!:ep;)
I just ask some of the neighbors to come over to feed the dog and chickens and to let them out/ close them up. I tell them all necessary info and trust them to follow my directions.
