Cough and Raspy Breathing Immediately After Worming

I have a 1 yr. old Speckled Sussex hen that I gave Equimax to for tapeworm. She's not been wormed before. The next morning she was coughing and had a raspy rattling sound while breathing. Her eyes are clear, no nasal discharge. I looked to see if she had visible gapeworms as I have heard they'll...

Bad Experience w/IDEAL Poultry Hatchery: Normal Occurrence?

Does your state offer free necropsy? That's the only way to know for sure the cause of death. In California you ship the body with ice packs to a lab and in a few days you know if what they died of is something that can affect the rest of your flock.

    Dong Tao or Ga Ho

I agree, if anyone has success importing to the US, I'd be interested in hatching a few out to preserve the breed. Hopefully enough folks will revive the thread!

Silver Laced Polish, Swedish Flower, Black Polish, Salmon Faverolles - BOY OR GIRL please?

Thanks everyone - hoping for the best. Already breaking my heart to have to rehome anyone as I've raised them from day old and they are my first chickens and treated as pets.

Silver Laced Polish, Swedish Flower, Black Polish, Salmon Faverolles - BOY OR GIRL please?

I am trying to select roos for rehoming, these 4 are a bit of a mystery to me. I believe I have 9 roos and 13 pullets, I am certain on the other 5, but these 4 are puzzling. Unlike the others that have much larger and redder combs and have crowed. Going to be tough to rehome.... I've gotten...

Chick likes to sleep on back (Pic included)

Haha! Little newborns are so cool. Mine are now running happily around the brooder. I have a tiny polish chick 4 wks old that was the runt and she's about their size. I put her in with them and they started pecking her and pulling at her feathers. Bad kids! Lol. I took her out, poor thing.

Chick likes to sleep on back (Pic included)

This one scared the beejebus outta me a f ew minutes ago. I think in her case it's because her tummy is so round when she rolled over she couldn't get back up - like a turtle. Just to be safe, I put her on her tummy, since she's less than 12 hours old and I didn't know if it was safe for her. I...

Cream Legbar Day Old Autosexing Help?

Hello - am new to chickens and cream legbars as well! Have three eggs hatching out, the first two have emerged! So now I thought it would be easy to distinguish males/females but the second one is a little harder for me. If there's a light dot on the head is it always a roo? Help please...

Russian Orloff 6 Weeks, pullet please? Already have 6 roos...

Hello, I have a flock of 19 chickens, all 6 weeks old. Hatchery sexing person must have been sleeping because of the 19, so far 6 are roos. Two are already crowing. Now I am roo paranoid -- if anyone can put my mind to ease on my little Russian Orloff I'd appreciate it. Sold as pullet, but so...

    Black Australorp Sexing Help Please...

Oh my...I thought I had a sweet little pullet but today he crowed. Only 6 weeks old - I have about one percent hope its a pullet that just likes to crow, lol. So here is my pic, standing then snoozing. Out of my little flock of 19 birds, all 6 weeks old that were sold as pullets by hatchery - 6...

The EE does have a few scattered red spots... Don't show up in pic as much as in person. Oh no, if two Roos will have to get more day old adorable pullets ;)

Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

I have been trying to figure out who crowed this morning when I went into the coop... they are all just six weeks old, and when I looked in the direction of the crowing, there were three in a group, one EE and two polish. I think it could be the EE (sold by hatchery as pullet but...?) and of all...

    Swedish Flower Hen Thread

That's good to know! I would love a couple more SFH, will try dry incubation next go around or I will wait until my pullets become broody hens and try it the old fashioned way. Any guess from you @Bulldogma about how my baby will feather out?

    Swedish Flower Hen Thread

Actually, there's a really good article on hatching out eggs/shipped eggs on BYC. Since you said it was your first shipped eggs :) https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/hatching-eggs-101

    Swedish Flower Hen Thread

Yes - same seller alas only one hatched out due to poor postal service handling (box was smashed on one side but eggs not broken, just scrambled). I posted a pic of my little guy/gal a couple days ago in this thread asking the same question about coloring! This pic is from this morning, he's...
