I agree with this! I try to recommend great breeds with great eggs to friends. They say, "No, those won't work i want to look at pretty chickens"
And then they go buy a bunch of buff orps at TSC.
🤦🏼♀️
I will not ever understand the hype.
I had a great hatch with the baskets! My best advice for anyone wanting to hatch with bags is: use a basket with it! no tangled chicks amd lots of room for them to move. Make sure the bag is secured. Active little chicks will find a way out of their baskets if you let them.
Some overzealous chicks started pipping early while in the turner. I got them sorted and in baskets. It was a classic case of hurry up and wait! 🤪
I think the baskets will work much better than the bags. We will all find out together!
I haven't decided yet, but I am leaning towards no. I did end up having to help a "glued" chick who was stuck and couldn't move. I may order a few different kinds of bags and play around more with egg placement and bag placement to see if there is a way to make the process more foolproof.

Here is an example of the most common problem with these hatching bags. This may be just due to the kind/size of bag I am using.
These bags were labeled for 10-12 eggs, and I only felt comfortable putting 3-5 eggs in each. They looked pretty small!
Perhaps more eggs stretches the bag out more...
Update: I have had to open my incubator a few times to untangle/untwist hatching bags. I have had issues with chicks getting stuck on their backs and somehow twisting the bags tightly around themselves (and others) while attempting to get upright.
I am hoping opening the 'bator hasn't shrink...
The open end of one bag was not secured well enough and the brahma chicks have escaped their bags. Fortunately, their feathered feet give them away and I won't struggle to identify them later 🙃
Two more hatched and remain contained in the bags. The bags restrict these chicks movements more than...
I have not been able to find very much information online about using hatch bags. I have hatched chicks many times, but this is my first time using hatch bags to separate chicks in the 'bator. I thought I'd post here to let other curious hatchers see how the process goes for me. Hopefully it...
Hi All,
I have a two week old chick who may have been injured today. She has a large fluid filled sac near her crop. This sack is much larger than her crop ought to be.
Initially I believed she had some subcutaneous air trapped, perhaps from a punctured lung or leaky air sac. I sterilized the...
Sounds like emus probably aren’t the best fit for your situation. They absolutely will kill your rabbits. They are basically the llamas of birds... They absolutely will destroy your garden- greens are their favorite snack! And, you really ought to get two, not one. They do much better together.
We no longer have emus but had them for a few years. You can purchase special ratite feed but they also do fine on dog food with supplemental feeds added. We actually offered free choice dog food and free choice alfalfa pellets and had no issues. Keep two, not just one. And, they do fine in cold...
