Hi everyone! I’m looking for serama hatching eggs (preferably a mix of smooth, silkied, and frizzled) located in California or in a state close by. Please message me ASAP if you have some or know someone who does and can ship right away :thumbsup Thanks!
I do not have chickens right now but I used to have some coronation sussex, Mille Fleur D'uccles, Wheaten Ameraucanas, Buff Orpingtons, French Black Copper Marans, Seramas, California Grey, Naked Necks, and raised some silkies as well... I think that was all haha... but hoping to start up a...
Pics 1,2, and 4 are definite roos and the australorp too. The Delaware is a pullet and the other Buff Orp. RIR seems like a pullet not too sure, but the lighter colored EE is also a girl.
Oooh looks like an Australorp or a Black Sex-Link chicken. How old is it and do you have picture that show the tail too? I am not 100% sure but i guess a hen?
For the chicks who freak out when the lamp goes off, is that their only source of light? If not then it is kinda normal for them to chirp because they are slowly getting used to the lamp going off. When I would turn off the lamp for mine they would chirp like crazy but eventually go about their...
Chicks do not NEED a red bulb heat lamp, but it is recommended to avoid these cases. There are other things that might have caused this. Is the size of the brooder large enough to accommodate all of your 12~ chicks? Sometimes when they do not have enough room to roam, they will get bored and...
Usually you start with the hottest part of the brooder being 90-95 degrees Farenheit for the first week. From there on every week after that, you lower the temp down 5 degrees until they are about 6 weeks of age. By then they are fine on their own, but it also depends on how hot it is where you...
Any baby animal will sleep quite a bit, so no worries there. Also the increase in roosting is actually a good thing! they're growing up and learning good habits that they will need when they are grown And like Sumi said they might have not liked the mat by itself and did not want to lay down on...
That should be no problem! I put chicks together that were two weeks apart (the bantams were older and the standards were quick to catch up in size) and they did not seem to care. They all grew up happy with no casualties.
Hi welcome to the backyard chicken raising world! Oh you are so lucky! Silkies are the cutest
For new little chickies:
1. ALWAYS have a clean supply of water and food for them. (No poop in water/food or they will get sick)
2. Gently handle them daily so they will grow up into nice hens that...
Yum! I love quail and usually just fry them, but how are they grilled? I was thinking about raising my own flock for meat and eggs and could use any tips you might have. Oh and what breed of quail are you raising? Thanks and glad you enjoyed your first taste of quail!
Hi everyone! I am not exactly new to the backyard chicken scene, but I stopped raising about 3 years ago. Haven't been on BYC since then, and I felt like now is a great time to rejoin this awesome community! Hoping on forming a new chicken laying flock, quail laying/meat flock, and maybe even...
