I've just started raising chicks: two barred rocks and silkies. I'd like some insight from you fellow chicken lovers^W^

welcome to the flock of chickens! two things I wish I'd known when I first started:
1. Let them go, when the time is necessary.
2. Don't let anyone scare your chickens. it ruins them!!!!!
3. Good luck!!!

Hi welcome to the backyard chicken raising world!

Oh you are so lucky! Silkies are the cutest

For new little chickies:
1. ALWAYS have a clean supply of water and food for them. (No poop in water/food or they will get sick)
2. Gently handle them daily so they will grow up into nice hens that give you lots of love
3. Clean out their brooder maybe once a week if it is real messy
4. Every week raise the heat lamp to gradually get them use to the temp where you live
5. last but not least! ENJOY THE TIME YOU HAVE NOW hahaha because trust me they will not stay little for long! When they're big, plump, and pumping out eggs, you're gonna miss the little balls of fluff running around.

....And if you're mad like me, you'll just give in and get more chickies LOL

Yes, the silkies have been wonderful! This is my first time raising baby chicks and I'm already in love

I do not have chickens right now but I used to have some coronation sussex, Mille Fleur D'uccles, Wheaten Ameraucanas, Buff Orpingtons, French Black Copper Marans, Seramas, California Grey, Naked Necks, and raised some silkies as well... I think that was all haha... but hoping to start up a flock again
