Thinking of adding solar power to coop

So if I were just to use that setup for the coop lighting (about 3hrs a day) it would be fine?

Thinking of adding solar power to coop

I actually was kind of thinking dual purpose like you mentioned. If we experienced a power outage I was planning on mounting the solar panel in a way that I could easily remove it and bring it to the house for just what you said. I don't know how practical that idea would have been but I was...

Thinking of adding solar power to coop

Ok how would I compare cold cranking amps to watts or am I looking at the wrong type of battery?

Thinking of adding solar power to coop

Hi everyone, I just started using supplemental lighting in the coop for eggs. I put a 40w bulb in a clamp fixture with a timer. During freezing weather I usually put a 40w bulb in a cinder block with a pan of water over it to keep it from freezing. I'm thinking of using solar energy instead of...

Finally decided to rebuild my temporary coop.

Well as you can see this project is going a little slower than anticipated. Here are a few more pictures. I am so glad for this suggestion so I braced the floor just to be sure and will be adding a door for going in and out.

Finally decided to rebuild my temporary coop.

Finally raised the floor about 8 inches. Trying to decide which route will be best for the walls. They will be a pallet and a half high in the front and a single pallet in the back.

Finally decided to rebuild my temporary coop.

Good idea...2 ft is enough for birds, but you may have to crawl under there to retrieve eggs or injured or broody bird. Make sure you leave enough head room in the coop for you to walk in tho. Hmmm. Now that's something I have not thought about, actually getting in there. I was thinking I...

Finally decided to rebuild my temporary coop.

Little progress made. Once I layed the boards out there didn't seem to be much head room underneath, I think I'm going to raise the floor up a little before I attach the boards.

Finally decided to rebuild my temporary coop.

After a lot of research i decided to build a pallet coop, or mostly pallets. Its 8'x8' and 2' off the ground at tge lowest corner. Its actually bigger than my current needs but will allow for more hens if needed. Not sure but i think it's enough room for 20 chickens. I have no set plans just...

    Keeping run dry

This sounds like a great idea, I also have problems during rainy weather with a messy run. How thick is your pea gravel and would't it eventually fill up with poo?

A fast developing hen or a roo?

Oh yeah, I had one other surprise laying in the run yesterday. The one on the left is just for size comparison.

A fast developing hen or a roo?

Well, its been obvious for a while now but everyone here was right. Here is an update, he started crowing yesterday. His color looks good and the feathers on his back have a wet look to them. ALT=""]https://www.backyardchickens.com/content/type/61/id/6916912/width/200/height/400[/IMG]

A fast developing hen or a roo?

How long did it take your other hens to start laying?

A fast developing hen or a roo?

I was afraid of that. When I open the pen to feed them that's usually the first one to meet me at the opening.

A fast developing hen or a roo?

I purchased 10 rhode island red hens to add to my flock of 6 to make sure I have enough eggs when winter gets here this year. They were hatched on 1/15 and I purchased them in mid Febuary. Most of their combs are about[/IMG] the same accept 1 and I'm hoping I have a fast developing hen on my...
