Birdman, that is what my package is marked below duramycin and what I'm using.
Pinkaboo, I didn't rule out blood until I saw ... well I guess chicken snot and later after free ranging is when it turned black. I have been stalking my chickens like a nervous maniac.
Oh wait, I am a nervous...
Please, ANY advice or ideas. I'm upset! I lost a hen today, a good hen ... all my hens are good. I noticed 1 hen wasn't out free ranging, she sat in the coop door, went later to check and she was on roost earlier than usual and had something hanging off her butt. She gave us a pretty good chase...
Thank you Sourland.
And Kelsie, I was wrong. The egg is cream and is from the Wyandotte! Oops. :) I have now added a black jersey giant, 4 leghorns and a banty pair that ate black mountain spotted.

I know their travels and rehoming is stress and it takes time for them to lay.
RIR looks rough, seller said other hens were picking her feathers and her butt/rump is still bare although...
We had this happen several years ago, my husband's grandmother sias weaels, a ferret turned loose, she named off several critters. We set the live trap up, wired a piece of chicken in there and caught what HAD to be the oldest, roughest looking hoot owl we have ever seen! He'd pop their heads...
Very neat. Downside is our fish are all freshwater so I'd have to boil it first ... After the crazy laid eggs post (Yes, I went through every page lol) now I want to treat the flock to fishies. :D
Afraid our cat might grab a midnight snack of eggs on the counter and since its an egg ... I think I'm compulsed to toss in the fridge.
Not to mention the little ones come over and I'd probably end up cleaning up a lot of eggs!
I thought about just using the counter but the cons outweigh the...
We are in SouthEast MO., just above the boot heel.
If I read that right you said that the heads were taken off your chickens? We had that happen, couldn't figure out which critter was doing it. No feathers or other evidence laying around, just our poor headless chickens and ducks.
We wired...
Good, so it sounds like I did the right thing. My kids are older but great nieces and nephews might frown at poo or feathers, or right now a bit of blood. Im not overly concerned with the washing until we are going to eat it then I dont want to risk a feather in my eggs. :) It happens though...
