The metal heating elements that the farmers innovators type incubators use are quite cheap. $10 or so on ebay. This may be a better option. I completed a similar project a year or so ago and hatched several chicks. Good luck, if I can be any help please let me know.

Candled all of the eggs and found 13 to have not developed. 26 are going strong. Now there was about 1.5 doz eggs that were put in the bator that had been left out one night in sub freezing temp and most of the not developed eggs came from this section.
