    Information about Molting, (how often, why they do it, how long will it last etc)

    I have 6 active hens, were laying 6/6, but now much less. Several are dropping feathers and I know they are molting, but have no idea why, etc. Can you knowledgeable chicken people educate me?

    Horse oats okay for chickens?

    My little flock got into the horse oats for awhile. I would like to know if race horse oats rather than rolled oats are OK for chickens. They think so, but I want your opinions! Thank you. Barb

    We live in orchard country and occasionally get some old nuts given to us. I thought my 8mo. old girls would like them but the nuts look kind of big. So since I read here that the hens like almond meal, I guess chopped nuts would be OK. Right? We are getting usually 5 eggs a day from 6 girls...

    Success!!

    Yesterday was an epic day in our coop! Six eggs from 6 chickens. Even the one 'in hospital' gave us an xtra large light blue egg!!! Just wanted to bust my buttons with 6 from 6 day and to thank everyone for their most entertaining and informative posts. We still worry about Mareks disease but...

    curious about laying patterns

    My hens are laying nicely and the eggs increased in size for a couple of weeks. All of a sudden I am getting small eggs from all 3 hens. I wonder if this is from a change in their needs or just normal variety in size. I will check right away on 16% protein feed. Any hints why this is happening...
