We have two backyard hens (a buff laced polish and a bantam brown leghorn) they are about 5 months old and have not started laying yet.
We let them free range in our yard all day long and feed them only kitchen scraps like soaked bread and watermelon.

Can you see the inside of her nesting box? Is it possible she is eating them? I have heard of chickens doing that. They even love the shell.

We hatched three brown leghorns. From the first week the only difference that we could see was that one had a pronounced stripe on it's head and the other two only had the chipmunk stripes on their back.
As they grew, at about six weeks old, the two without the stripe on it's head grew...
We have two chickens, Sunshine and Buttercup that need sexing. They are nine weeks and no one has crowed! This is our first time.
We are pretty certain Sunshine is a White Leghorn and
Buttercup is a Buff Polish.

We are new to the chicken world, and have incubated eggs and had six hatch today. Three of them are really cute brown with chipmunk stripes down their back. I thought (from previous posts) that we identified them as Welsummers, but ours came out of white eggs, not brown.

We just hatched five chicks last night.
Two were yellow so the kids named one Buttercup and the other Sunshine.
And three were Welsummers, so they named them Chipmunk, Brownie and Hazelnut.
