Potential List of Silver Pencilled Plymouth Rock LF Breeders

Luckily I’m in Alabama! So glad I found this. I’ve never been one to just have one breed, but silver penciled rocks have really caught my eye. Giving these guys a try as soon as I move properties and can set up breeding pens. Thanks for posting this!

Wanting to start getting chickens, any suggestions on which?

Wyandottes all the way! Can be bossy with eachother, but for the most part an easy going breed.

Just wanted to know how your guinea/chicken hybrids are doing or how long they lived? If you had any hens, did they lay eggs, how many, etc. Very interested in crossing my own guinea hybrids and pheasant-chicken hybrids. I have a passion for genetics.

    Whiting True Blue Chat Thread!

Wait, whatttt. I have 3 pullets that look like this, that I thought were RIR/Game x Silver Laced Wyandotte mixes! Crazy! I have one older pullet of the same cross that looks very similar to the younger three...that's why I was thinking they were my own mixes not the Whiting True Blues. Can't...

Baby chicks raised with flock or seperate

Yeah it definitely helps that they are free ranging...the babies have plenty of room to get away if needed. That's awesome!

    Whiting True Blue Chat Thread!

I have 2 splash girls 00 3 of these buff and white chicks (they're the "chocolate" ones) The brown barred pullet And I've got like 5 of the classic ee colored ones..."partridge" or similar to it, but this girl is a blue partridgey color and the sweetest one of the bunch!!! I've...

    The Perfect Free-Range Chicken?

the equivalent of "partridge" and "dark partridge" for easter eggers with the first 2 chicks. I need to go back and read which hatchery you got these from. Some sell easter eggers. You still have some solid breeds to work with. Looking forward to see how the fayoumis progress.

    The Perfect Free-Range Chicken?

When the SHTF, the only birds I'm keeping will be my game and game cross. Got a Wyandotte hen right now with 14 Game x Wyandotte chicks and 15 hatchery chicks. Can't wait to see what some of the pullets look like. So far, "golden partridge" and silver partridge.

    The Perfect Free-Range Chicken?

You're gonna be pleased with your wyandottes and fayoumis. I know a couple of people who ordered fayoumis from McMurray and they were almost as broody as game, but not until after their 2nd year. Your lakenvelders may not last long if they choose to stay out in the open. I never have luck with...

Best dual purpose breed for sustainability

Out of the breeds you mentioned, I'd go with black Wyandotte and buff orpington. I love wyandottes, and have had quite a few broody ones. Gamefowl and wyandottes qould be my pick. I'd put a Wyandotte rooster over a couple game hens (and Wyandotte hens...) and keep a cockerel from which ever...

    The Perfect Free-Range Chicken?

As mentioned you'll def to mix gamefowl blood into your combination homestead breed. Nothing comes close to gamefowl if you're talking about a bird that will find most of it's food and give you eggs/chicks. Game are smart when it comes to predators, too. They can hide pretty well if you have...

Possibly sick peachick - poo pic

Glad they seem to be improving! I worked at a vet for 5 years and they would do the same thing. As long as you plan to spend oodles of money, sure we can help you out! We'll throw in this and that, too. They will get their $$$ won't they :/

Baby chicks raised with flock or seperate

I would definitely not put them with the other chicks. Good luck! Hope to see pictures. I feel comfortable with your situation knowing that your hen is near the top of the pecking order- like I said this usually determines whether or not you will have success.

Baby chicks raised with flock or seperate

I wish more people that advised mom to stay with the flock throughout the whole process would post pictures. Unless the broody is an alpha hen she'll have a hard time protecting all of her chicks from everyone. I only have 2 hens that I can let raise chicks with the others...everyone else would...

    2x4's for roost?

This right here. I don't care that this thread is dead. Had to say I agree with this. My chickens like the very highest places they can get. Call it survival instinct if you want, but they are happier when they are higher up bc they feel safest. I have a very long ladder built in my coop that...
