That is a lovely thing to say and you are right to remind me that even if they were only happy for a wee while they got to roam, were cosy, got treats and even got used to my dog, then it was ten times better than they had fending for themselves. Thank you for your words of wisdom.
I have a lot of space and have had girls for years but not a cock and already their wee personalities are coming through. I think I will keep one who seems happy around the girls but not ready to jump all over them and he is still wary of me so seems the right one. I am in the countryside so...
I acquitted 9 new visitors after helping the SSPCA rescue some abandoned girls/boys. They were so bedraggled, thin and lacking feathers that telling if they were male or female was difficult. But I couldn't say no when the SSPCA asked if I could take some as not all would fit in their van. They...
Thank you for all your kind advice and sorry it took so long to reply. Charlie didn't make it in the end she started to loose weight too so I had to make the decision to be kind and not let her suffer. Still the other two are doing good and now the spring is here we are getting two more, never...
Ended up taking her to the vet who said that she had the equivalent of a sprained ankle but apparently that is further up on the leg. He has given me Metacam to try for week to see if that helps, poor girl that she is however she can still run for treats so its not getting her down too much...
I caught her and there was no obvious injury, no warm areas on her leg, her foot still curls round and she can still sit on her roost, her foot is clean, no lumps or cuts no swelling anywhere. She still eats and drinks just limps not sure what else to do or try.

I will catch her tomorrow and do all the checks you suggest and let you know thank you for getting back to me, much appreciated. Yeah she does free range in grass and sand areas and I have two other chickens. I noticed it just a few days ago.

My chicken is limping, she has no obvious injury, her leg looks clean, no sores under foot, just not using it as much and prefers not to stand on it, no swelling either how long should I just keep an eye on it or do I go to vet, any suggestions, only had chickens for a short time so not sure any...
Thank you for the link I went there not too much different ones to choose from but we found three who seem very happy to be out of their shed into their new home :)
