Hi! Can I jump in? How do you check their crop? My hen is doing the same thing. Noticed as she stands still that her fluff is moving like a persons chest when breathing. Only two eggs today and four yesterday, one without the shell. I thought it was one of the other hens...This happened last...
That stinks. So sorry for your loss. How big of a run for 3 hens and a roo is appropriate for lock down? They go crazy pacing the fence...all dirt. Not sure what I can add to make it better.
Ok to give them a handful to get them into run after being out at end of day when I need to go out and won't be back until after dark? Gives them reward for coming in before usual time...
One of my new young hens prefers the sandbox under the roost most of the time. Sometimes she lays in box and other times not. I hate it because I have to wash the sand off and I prefer keeping them room temperature. Curious to see other responses....
Hi all. We gave away all our chickens years ago when I took on a job that didn't allow me to take proper care and had and ugly situation between our lovely rooster and his son (looked like a clone). But we have repurposed part of our shed for a nice and secure coop and will be purchasing some...
I am having trouble with mice and their droppings in the chicken food so it was recommended I get a female cat. I adopted a young female today and am wondering how to introduce her to my two grown hens and adjust to my six young layers that are still in the garage. Any suggestions? I currently...
Thank you.for your help. I will try the rearranging. She was laying good eggs for about a week and now this for the last two days. This is he second season laying, none of them laid all winter. There has been a change in the pecking order though. My oldest, April, has not been well. She is...
I'm having a similar problem. For the last two days I've found soft broken eggs in the roost next to the nest. I have two laying hens. I get one good egg a day and they have oyster shells available...do not know what to do about it. It's like the egg isn't finished yet.
I posted a thread the other day regarding a lethargic and drooling chicken. I gave her tomatoes and olive oil and she did better and is walking around now but I'm still very concerned. Should I put her out of her misery or what else can I do? She is about 4-5 years old. Does not lay anymore...
For anyone that wants to know, I tried the chopped ripe red tomatoes and used a dropper and fed her the juice and some olive oil. She is out and about and eating meal worms again.

We just got 6 more chicks...haven't named them yet. Probably be named after Disney's princesses? or flowers...
4/10/16 - My April is not doing so well. She's been drooling sometimes clear and other time with odor. Pretty laid back and not the perky hen she usually is. It's been about three days. She is moving around more than the previous three days but her crop seems really big - actually bigger on...
Hey there!
My oldest, favorite and leader of the three hen flock has been out of sorts for the last three days. My husband said when he let the girls out to free range she was fine then he found her in the pen just standing there pretty lethargic. Next she had gone back to the laying box up...
