    Sudden Chicken Death Syndrome?

We went on vacation this past weekend. Got a call from our friend who was watching them for us. She found our sweet Hennyroo Heather dead in the coop and said the other chickens were standing around her. They are all just a year and a month old. She called and told us Saturday night and we...

Broken and missing feathers at base of tail on two hens, HELP!

I would think pecking. I have 6 pullets (almost a year old now) and no roos. We have one hen who has basically become the roo, she guards them when they're roaming around outside and she is quite literally at the top of the pecking chain. She pretty much pecks anyone in her way. At the other...

Arctic cold front in West Central Arkansas

Yep my girls are all doing fine! And have been quite active these last few days. I put out extra straw for them, but they still want to go outside and run around free and scratch. Only thing besides the extra straw was shutting their coop door at night. However, new problem. Saw them all run...

We got a blizzard in this area over Christmas, well we got 6 inches here the blizzard was really in Oklahoma, but Christmas...

Arctic cold front in West Central Arkansas

Anyone else in Arkansas worried. We're expecting tonight and tomorrow, wind chills down to MINUS 20, northerly winds gusting around 30 mph, and tomorrows high is 19. They've handled the weather temps so far alright, though I did see 4 hens in one regular sized nesting box one evening. They're...

This will be our first winter with our new pet chickens. Would like to hear from other west central Arkansas/ Eastern Oklahoma folks about winter precautions they take for their chickens. How low can it go before they need a heat lamp? what about their feet and combs in the weather? We have...

Our First Egg! Laid 18 weeks to the day after we got them! Not too much smaller than store bought large egg. We think this is the proud mama. Heather, one of our Welsummers, and her onlookers.

    I have a little black chick I can't identify

We got our chicks at TSC as well. We have two black ones that sound like what you described. They turned out to be Black Sex Links or Rock Reds. Wonderful chickens, well so far they're only 5 weeks old, but they are the sweetest and most intelligent seeming ones of what we ended up with.
