Anyone try using one of these, they are a 55 gal barrell with a timer operated spin Cast feeder usualy used to bait deer for hunting. Here in michigan baiting has been banned and you can pick up a used one for really cheap. Any thoughts?

I have 5, 1 year old chickens and had 8 that are 7 weeks old and 2 ducks that are 7 weeks old. I got a garden style pond for t ducks and they love it. I went home for lunch and found 2 of my baby chicks in the pond dead. How can I keep the rest of them out of the pond? Please help.
