Just lost two 7wk old chicks, drown in duck pond

I have 5, 1 year old chickens and had 8 that are 7 weeks old and 2 ducks that are 7 weeks old. I got a garden style pond for t ducks and they love it. I went home for lunch and found 2 of my baby chicks in the pond dead. How can I keep the rest of them out of the pond?

Please help.

That is just horrible. Sorry to hear that! Is there any way you can make the pond very shallow until all are older? Like not more than an inch deep?
