Lol thanks so much! I called the lady at the feed store earlier, and she was being really rude and just said that they don't usually molt on their feathers, so she was probably sick with mites or something. I got super scared after that because I love my chickens lol but thanks for clearing that...
Hi. So I noticed about 2-3 days ago that one of my chickens started loosing a lot of feathers, they were ALL over the coop and there run. I live in california so it's sort of warm right now. I've had them for about a year and a half and they've never molted (like seriously molted) ever. This...
When my chickens were young, they refused to eat anything besides their feed. When they were a 2 months old or something, i started giving them boiled eggs, and they really loved that (it sounds weird but it's good for them). Then gradually as they got older, they started eating more things, and...
Okay, thanks! Mosquitos aren't really an issue in the area, but there seem to be a lot near our house (we bought one of those bug zapper things and it goes off all the time). I think i'll ask another vet, and if they say they do give it to them, then I'll just give him the medicine just to be safe:)
This isn't about chickens, but when shoudl we start giving our 5 month old puppy heartworm medication. I called the vet and they said that they don't give it to their dogs, because it's not an issue where we live (in southern california). Is this true?
Thanks for the answers everyone!
Turn's out our first choice puppy (same litter, just a male) became available and we're going with him! :)
I was thinking of Otto, Louis, or Blue!
My rooster does the same thing as this. He'll charge at my feet every once in a while. He's been doing this for a while, but has never attacked me and never hurts the hens. I wouldn't worry, but maybe someone with more experience could answer.
Hey everyone! Finally, we're getting a dog:)
We're getting her on June 20th. She's a medium sized goldendoodle and going to be light colored.
I'm horrible at names, and need to start thinking of one (she's going to puppy school for 2 weeks until we get her where they teach her her name and...
It depends on how much light they have. Make sure they have a lot of calcium.
That sounds right, but my laying hens generally miss a day every so often. As they get older, they will lay less.
I don't really know anything about ducks, but if you order them, I would make sure to call your post office and make sure they know that you are ordering live animals. I would also pick them up from the post office when they arrive.
Hi everyone!
So... today we got our first eggs! We got 2 eggs, and I think they are from our 2 silkie girls. They were pretty small and a sort of pinkish white color, but they tasted really good. I have a few questions about eggs.
1- How do you tell if an egg is fertilized? We recently found...
Update:
the wheezing chicken, originally thought to be a "she" turned out to be a "he". He is about 8-10 months old. I thought roosters started crowing when they were younger, but yesterday morning I awoke to "cock-a-doodle-do". He is my favorite chicken, so there is no way i'm giving him...
Update:
I went to check on her this morning and the wheezing was gone and she started squaking normally again. I think she just had something stuck in her throat and manadged to cough it up.
Thanks for the help anyways! I'm sure it'll come in handy eventually...
Thanks so much! I'm really hoping she just has something in her throat and not an infection.
It's about 8pm here. I just went out to check on her. When I walked outside, she was quite, but when I looked in the coop and she knew I was there it got a bit louder. In the morning i'll catch her and...
Hello.
Basically, I was gone for a week and a petsitter was watching the chickens.
I came back today, and I noticed that my black silkie has been wheezing, or something. It rained a couple times two weeks ago, she wasn't doing it then. None of the other chickens are doing it, but she is...
Thanks so much everyone!
Money isn't really an issue as for the food, but I really don't want to spend loads of money on just one bag of dog food.
I'm looking for a pretty active dog. I would wake up early in the morning and go on a 1 hour run, and another run in the evening. We would go on...
