lots of folks use WD-40, yes the kind that you spray on squeaky hinges. personally, sounds toxic to me since the solvent in it can be absorbed through the skin...but people do it nonetheless.
i use mineral oil, it's totally harmless.

Hi, my black Australorp is being broody, I think? She is laying but spending a lot of time in the box. She is making very prehistoric, dinosaur sounds on the nest and puffing up all her feathers to look scary. I made her get out, and she is being big and puffy, all her feathers standing up...she...
hi everyone, to follow up, i took lucy to the vet today.
lucy was filled w/eggs inside her abdominal cavity. the vet couldn't even palpate an organ. her condition was not operable and the dr. felt she was suffering so we helped her along. she was so full of cooked egg that the dr. had to inject...
thanks chickbea - cleaning the wound and dressing w/triple antibiotic seems to have done the trick. there must have been a window there in between me checking her wound that the maggots had time to find her. that must happen pretty fast. at least they keep the wound clean, as nasty looking as...

my hen is having a hard time walking. i isolated her but today she got out. i let her stay out since she was staying relatively quiet. she had been eating normally and seemed...

about a week ago, i noticed my favorite hen walking awkwardly. she seemed happy enough, eating well, good color that i just kept an eye on her but didn't do anything special.
then i started researching...
hello, newbie here. i just registered and thought i'd answer your chicken/goat cohabitation question.
i indeed have both species coexisting nicely. i have 6 goats and 5 hens. all was well until we bought a pair of nigerian dwarf kids - they were about the size of hen when we got them. they...
