My little missing hen's eggs are hatching. We got 4 babies yesterday and there are still 18 eggs under her. I haven't checked her this morning for more. But we are leaving town so she will have to manage on her own. I will be taking the ones that have hatched with me.
I am a happy proud mama.
My hen went missing. She was on 22 eggs, when we found her. I have no idea how long she has been sitting on them. Here are some pics of the eggs candled.
Im still in my first year with chickens.
We thought we lost a hen. But she showed up one day. I followed her to under the front porch. She has a HUGE nest! 23 eggs. We candled 2 eggs and we are guessing they will be hatching any day.
I have decided to not let her raise them.
My questions:
Out of...
She is never left unattended. When no one is home, she goes in her crate. She also sleeps in the house and my chickens get locked up at night in their coop.
We can agree to disagree.
I wont give up the clicker. That is how I am training her. She is learning to ignore the chickens and that they are part of the family. I swear by the clicker. :)
She is never left alone with the chickens. We have 4 chicks in the house and she is also figuring out that if she ignores those too...
This is a very old post. But.... I have a pointer pup and I am learning that Clicker Training my pup to Like the chickens works! She points at them and will watch them for minute then moves on.
I will click and that her when she ignores the chickens.
I also have 4 chicks in the house. I am...
My son (almost 18) and I fell in love with the sizzels! We ended up with 2 sizzels and then 2 silkies. Almost came home with 2 frizzels! But decided to wait since these will be our first baby baby chicks.
They are now in my kitchen in a water trough with their brood light.
My son's Pitty wants...
Two of the TJ chicks have very big combs compared to their sister. Hers is half the size and light pink. The other two are almost red.
The EEs, I have no clue which is which. I do notice that one of the lavender ones is always going against the bigger TJ roos.
Well..... darn! I dont want any roos.... im sure my neighbors will be complaining(I live in the country but noise travels). So, out of respect.... I decided no roos.
These are straight runs so I knew it could be 50/50. So far I noticed 4 are fighting. The others are too busy being chicks.
I have 10 8-9 week chicks. I believe 3 of them are Leghorns (hatched from TJ fertile eggs) 2 of those are roos. The other 7 are EE and I am not sure which ones are Roos.
my coop is small (still brood size) but there is a door for them to go out in the run. My run is about 13 feet wide and about...
I have 3 TJ chicks. A friend hatched them. Only one pullet. So the 2 roos will have to go or become dinner. But I am noticing that the roos are bullies. Not sure how much longer im gonna keep them around if they continue.
All of my others are EE. I cant wait for them to start laying.
I know I have at least 2 roos so far. They will become dinner. That leaves me room for 2 more. But I am gonna wait till the brooder is empty before I get more. I want to keep my number at 10. Then use my other coop for meat chickens.
