Bent the wire out at the bottom as recommended and covered with dirt.
I can get the chickens to go in the new coop when I feed in there but they won't at roosting time. They are still laying and roosting in the small chicken tractor but when the run gets built I plan to feed in there and close...
Bought a couple rolls of hardware cloth as advised on this site and closed the bottom on three sides. Only thing left before adding the chickens is a run off the back. Can't add a picture right now so will try again
So my plan to put a tilting window in changed to a smaller window with a vent above. Also put a small manufactured vent down low(not shown) the chickens could use it now but no success getting them to yet.
No expert here but I left 17" under the coop I am building and my chickens have been spending some time under it already. That's to the bottom of the framing so they have an added 6" in between.
Got a little more done but still a way to go. The local landfill was good for a few more boards and some hinges. Have a window and screen for the main opening but may need to spring for a latch. The plan is for it to tilt out with some chains.
Feed and supplies can now be put in the left side...
No expert here but it looks like you are expecting the feed to travel horizontally more than it is capable of. Shorten the distance in between or make separate ones? I too would like to make something similar so will be looking at the other feeders posted and check back to see what others suggest.
I'm thinking Sussex as we'll. The previous owner called them Suffolk but we didn't find anything when searching. Was close enough to find images of Sussex though and that's what they look like the most.
Thanks for the positive comments. I will for sure post more pics as things get done. Our local landfill was closed today and I'm in need of more stuff. The selection is usually very good after a holiday so will see what tomorrow brings.
A couple more pics of what I have so far.
I acquired an outdoor sign that was good for a 4x6 piece of high grade 1/2" plywood and two trusses that ended up in the middle of the structure. The sign ended up sheeting the wall on the bottom of the side the chickens will be in.
All I did yesterday...
First off, what a great site to find out about all things chicken. My wife got things started by finding a free chicken tractor (if we took the chickens-4h, 1r). Sounded good because I really don't have time for chickens. Well, after hauling it home, it was too small and had other problems...
