We hatched 30 chicks for the Easter Hatch-a-long.....sadly, they are beginning to die and show signs of trouble walking. We had 3 die within 2 hours today and one only walks if we hold it up.

YAY for mixed breeds!!!! The only so-called "pure" ones we want to breed are silkies and speckled sussex (for now). Everything else is a mix. We have had 1 group of 4 birds hatch last month - 3 most likely have a brahma mother and 1 most likely has an australorp mother - but it is fun to see...
We are getting ready to hatch our second batch of chicks in a few days. We candled them yesterday and found one of the eggs to have the yolk sac on the side of the egg instead of at the bottom. We have an egg turner, so we are certain that the egg has been facing properly the entire incubation...
Are there any breeders or hatcheries in or around Central Florida (Ocala area). We are not particular about breeds (yet :) ) - just looking for breeders close to home before we try to have some shipped!

I wasn't clear...sorry....The 6 week old chicks are in their own run and separate coop....The middle ones are with the hens but do have their own coop as well....i will try blocking the area where they are sleeping to try to force them inside....thanks!
My fiancee' and i are new to raising chicks and have a question....We have 3 laying hens that we got as adults....we have 4 girls who are almost 5 months old (light brahmas and silver-laced wyandottes)....we have 8 girls who are 6 weeks old (ameracaunas, buff orpingtons, australorps, and...
