I will keep an eye on her and hopefully she starts laying again soon.
Once they start laying how often should they lay, obviously this will vary but just to give me an idea.
Not long after she laid those yolks she perked up again and her tail went back up.
We believe both hens have been laying, when they first started we were finding eggs down on the ground near their food. Our other hen has been laying them in the nest box.
Hi there,
We have 2 australorp hens which have recently started laying, although we haven't had any eggs in about a week however we have noticed they have been laying yolks or soft shelled eggs. We have put shell grit in their coop and have recently changed them onto layer feed.
Today we...
I realise there is a for sale section but unsure how many perth/australian people actually check it considering a majority of the people on here are from the US. So i apologise if this is against the rules.
I have a lovely young australorp rooster which i need to find a new home for as we...
Thanks for the suggestions :)
This afternoon i placed each chicken near the bottom of the ladder and they all walked up fine. Left them for a while and came back to one of the chickens sitting half way down the ladder. Woohoo! We have made progress.
As the title states my chickens won't go up or down their ladder. I've tried putting their food at the bottom to try encourage them but they won't budge. We have placed them on the ladder and they can definitely climb it. Any suggestions would be helpful.
We are going to be building a coop soon and have started buying supplies, however we are unsure what type of wood we should be using. I was thinking treated pine would be fine but my husband is worried about the treated pine being poisonous to the chickens. We have termites near by in a big tree...
Here are some more recent pics.. The middle one is definitely a cockerel.
I think the one on the right is definitely a pullet and not sure on the left. The comb hasn't changed size but does have a small amount of pink in it.
Thanks everyone, i've had a look on our hardware store's website and its called Mouse and snake mesh.. looks perfect for the job!
We want to be able to move the coop around on our back lawn so wont be digging the coop into the ground. We will have an open mesh on the bottom to stop any foxes...
We originally ordered a coop online however they keep pushing back when they plan to get stock in, and we have now decided we will build our own coop. Our chicks are quickly out growing the box they are currently in so we need to make one very soon.
We live near a small patch of bush land and...
The middle one definitely does have a lot of pink in its comb, and it is a lot bigger than the other two.
I will take some more photos over the coming weeks and post them here. Thanks for all your help.
