We have had someone home all day to pick up the eggs so that none freeze. The chickens are producing a lot more heat than I thought and it is actually quite warm in there! The water is even staying unfrozen! But I have unusual chickens that huddle in the corner to sleep ( for some reason they...
Congrats on the new chicks!
Are you giving them medicated feed or water? If you aren't please do, it's pretty cheap to buy some powder to put in their water. I didn't think it would help my chicks but it helped a lot giving them some vitamin infused water. They were not doing good and some...
my chickens started laying roughly 2 weeks ago, the first day I got 3 eggs, now I'm getting at least 12 a day. Still waiting for those last 8 to start laying!
He's been doing great! He's seems healthy and is getting accustomed to his new life. Around 6:30pm ish my dad told me he had heard a kitten crying outside. So I went and found the kittens sibling ( only one). So he's in my porch with the original one. He is VERY skinny compared to the first...
Medicine in their water really helps them to stay healthy, I kept medicine in my chickens water for 8 weeks to make sure they were healthy. I had 5 chicks die of sickness until I put medicine in their water, then I only had 1 die of an unknown cause ( some kind of not growing disease thing)...
I have 20 isa browns, they tend to mature early. It nearly killed me waiting for eggs, but it's almost imaginable for me to think some people wait 30+weeks!
I feel sorry for the people who have had I wait so long! My girls are just turning 20 weeks and already 10 out of 20 of them are laying. The first day that they laid I got 3 eggs, when they were 17 weeks old.
He must be over 4 weeks because he definitely has teeth! The cat is technically mine but all we do is put out food for all the ferrel cats. I haven't seen her so she must have the others hidden away in a shed or something. I keep forgetting to check its sex.
The mum cat took 3/4 of the kittens so I put the one she didn't take in a box and put him or her in the house. I fed it and gave it some water. It meows a lot but that's just because its lonely. It's box has in it: multiple rags for it to sleep on, some food, and a stuffed animal. The kitten...
You can expect them to lay at the earliest- 16 weeks. Most chickens lay around 20 weeks old. I think what your referring to is the egg song. Chickens sing a song that goes like this " buck buck buck BUGAWK" they do this after or before they lay an egg.
I couldn't beleive the difference in eggs when my girls started to lay. Store bought eggs are watery and the yolks are pale yellow but the nice, good eggs from my hens are flavorful and the yolks are bright orange. I thought that it was very cool. I live in a very small farmer town so when I...
Depending on how big your area is for them a 250 watt might be just fine. I use pine shaving for my chickens over 5 weeks, but for chicks I use straw. Make sure to either have medicated feed or buy some medicine powder and put it in the water. This is just to keep them healthy.
They have started to meow more. The time most likely for the mum to come back is at night so in the morning I'll wake up a little earlier and go check if she's with them. If she is I'll leave them but if they are still there I will take them in and give them some food and warm them and be...
