    I am supplementing my layer crumble with puppy food 27% protein. I also have an electric worm zapper so I can go out and gather earthworms & mix them in with grass W/ plenty of clover in it. they love it.

    Chicken eating eggs.

    I went out to collect eggs this evening, and found 1 egg in a nesting box, and evidence that there had been another. There was yolk still in the bottom of the nest . Any ideas on how to stop this , or identify the offender would be very helpful. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

    If you are going to use a deep litter I would go with straw. It is an excellent insulator , and that should be sufficient.

    I have lost 2 hens this week, & this may be the reason . Both birds had mucus coming from their nostrils & the on that died today had a lot of mucus in her poop. They were 2 year old birds. Also the hens are not laying.I'm going to treat what is left of the flock.

Evidently she must have been sitting in the door way to the coop, and some how the door which slides up & down ,came down on her & broke her neck or spine.     I have 2 hens that we have narrowed down to Production Reds, & 5 Back Sex Links. All beautiful birds.And a Rooster that I believe is a New Hampshire Red.
