Mine love the rain. They will run around the yard all day long even when its pouring. They might come on to the porch once a day to get dry when it rains all day.
Just a little update.
She seems to be eating and drinking fine. I left her confined in a large dog crate all day today except for 30 mins prior to dusk. I let her out to walk around and she was acting normal. She was shaking her head a little more than average, but I can understand that. She...
Ooooookkkkkk....
1. I cleaned out the wound with water and dabbed it off
2. I mixed a some peroxide with water (about 3/4's water) and further cleaned out the wound
3. Got out some tweezers and moved some feathers out of the way so the skin could perfectly lay back down
4. Trimmed those feather...

Honestly I don't see the problem with having a dominate hen. As I said in a prior post she is not the one to start things, but she will defend herself. Plus this is one of our first hens and she is NOT going anywhere.
My main concern is getting her better right now...not which to get...
alicefelldown - She's never the one that starts it. She only fights when they are trying to get on top of her or when they try to show her they are dominate over her.
WalkingWolf - thanks for the info. I'll stop by the feed store in the morning on my way to work.
This is the one hen who WILL not bow down to the roosters. She will fight with the roosters and they are scared of her.
Yesterday when I went to close up the coop (they free range) and I couldnt find one of our RIR's. I looked for a few mins and found her 2 fences over in an empty field next to...
If you find out something that works let me know.
Mine WILL NOT learn to go in the coop. There's always 3-5 that get in the tree above the run and think they are going to roost there. The thing I dont understand is when they see me come out they jump out of the tree and go in the coop because...
We had 9 RIR's hens and one night a fox got 7 of them. This year we got a new batch (of different breeds) and the 2 RIR's remaining were really confused about them at first. When we finally integrated the new chicks one of the RIR's had nothing to do with them but the other one wanted to play...

After the coyote got our chickens I was out for blood. When they figured out I was after them they left my place and haven't been back.
Its been months since they've been around so I think they forgot I have a kill order on them.
The coop and run was HEAVILY fortified after the first...
They just started crowing at 12:28 a.m. so I grabbed my shotgun and flashlight to go check on the coop...I can hear some people wwwwaaaaayyyyyy off in the distance talking (sound travels really far on a cold and quiet night). Maybe thats what set them off this time?
I guess I'm just freaked out...

I'm lucky that mine are not really loud. If my windows open I can hear them but if its closed I just hear a very faint crow.
We have some neighbors a good distance away and I can hear their rooster like its 2 feet away from me when I'm outside.
I live out in the country and the chickens cant see the dirt road at all. The coop is a few hundred yard away from everything so I dont think it would be cars or lights.
We do have some coyotes and all other kinds of wildlife so I thought they may be getting spooked...but like I said I couldnt...
