Ok folks, our first hatch with the incuview. We bought 27 hatching eggs from Meyer hatchery. They sent 29. Just barely fit all the eggs inside the incubator. Candled on day 8. 1 was bantam egg was not fertile and 1 bantam egg was an early quiter. The rest were viable. The temp and humidity...
Well pennsylvania peeps I've been away from the thread for a while, life is crazy. We wanted to expand our rock so we ordered some hatching eggs from
Meyer hatchery. We incubated for the first time. It was very cool. The kids and my wife thought it was so fun. 24 out of 29 hatchered...
I've had mine about a year. Got it as a gift. Just ordered eggs from Meyer hatchery. Question: My incutherm reads about 1.5 degrees warmer than the incuview thermometer. Should I calibrate the incubator to the incutherm?
Welcome from Montour county. I trained at Children's in Pittsburgh. I'm new to chickens just over a year ago. This group of folks on this thread are an amazing wealth of information and support. It is an addicting hobby for sure and really fun. Again welcome.
Here's our Barnevelder from MPC. The kids named her Fleur. Even though I've read that hatchery stock don't lay especially dark eggs, hers are much darker that my other brown egg layers.
Yes, she definitely can be :) I would either put her in an elevated wire-bottom cage for a few days (sitting the cage on something as low as a 2x4 should work) or if that doesn't work, putting her in a shallow tub of cool water can bring her body temperature down. Make sure you don't stick her...
Thanks D, I thought so. Knew what i was in for when i got these two little fluffy butts! Not sure I'm ready for more chicks now so I'll leave he be if she doesn't break after 3 days in the broody cage of shame.
I need some wisdom from my pennsylvania peeps. I have an 8 month old bantam mottled cochin that I swear is broody. She is flat as a pancake on the nest and has picked the feathers on her chest and belly out. She often returns to the nest if I take her out. Is this possible this early...
Townhen,
I wanted to follow up on my Barnevelder from MPC. She is absolutely gorgeous! Surprisingly close to type base on my reading. She's the jumpiest in my mixed flock but a great layer of dark brown eggs. Love her! How did yours turn out?
I need some advice from my pennsylvania peeps. 9 of 10 hens in my mixed flock are now regularly laying. With the help of ceramic eggs everyone lays in the nest boxes except my double laced barnevelder. We find her eggs nearly daily in the run here and there. She just started laying about 2...
OUR FIRST EGG!!! YEAH... We just got back from vacation in South Carolina yesterday. Eggey-Eggey our easter egger layed this little green egg today. What a nice welcome home present. Excited for the other girls to start. They are all 19 weeks old now.
So I'm a first time chicken keeper. I ordered from MPC after a lot of research. Obviously they were drop shipped from Meyer hatchery. There customer service is very good. We got 2 mottled cochin bantams, 1 easter egger, 1 barred plymouth rock, 1 speckled sussex, 1 barnevelder, 1 buff...
