    It isn't pasty butt or coccidiosis. No signs of disease...Its warm here but I thought of heat issues too. They would all get to a certain age and then one by one I find them dead...The last 5 are doing well. They are separated from others and looking good...sometimes it is just a hit and miss...

    Hello all, have a problem. I'm not new to raising chicks but I have had several chicks die from a clutch my broody hen hatched. Could it be a genetic thing? I have no problems with other chicks or birds in same flock..thanks

    Strange broody hen behavior

    I was wondering if bad or negative traits can be passed on. She is aggressive with others, can other hens learn from her and also pick up bad behaviors? If so, I will give her away to avoid her affecting my other hens.

    This was her 2nd time being broody. The first time, I put her in a huge dog crate inside the coop with food and water access but private and secure from other hens. She cracked or broke all her eggs before they hatched. So this time I left her in the nest box where she was and let her alone...

    Strange broody hen behavior

    Has anyone ever had a broody hen to kill her chicks? I have a Cochin that hatched a clutch of eggs but right after hatching (sometimes before) she killed the chick and threw it out of the nest box. I have never heard of it before but would appreciate thoughts or similar experiences. Thanks!
