LAYING Silkie acting like a rooster

No, my neighbors don't complain. Well, atleast they shouldn't what with their dogs barking and howling all day. Thanks for your help, and yes we have looked into the surgery for our previous rooster who was not a bantam.

LAYING Silkie acting like a rooster

Hi. I have a silkie hen who recently layed her first egg. Before she laid it she was acting like a rooster, did "the dance" a couple times, crowed every morning with her man, and started pecking some of our new poulets. I am positive the egg was hers, and here are my reasons why: 1 I put her in...

Older Rhode Island Hen Molting in below zero

Hi! I have a rhode island red who is about 3-4 years old, very healthy, happy, no signs of sickness, and loves to run around, be outside, and get attention. But.... she's molting.....and the usual temperature is 30 or below (F). And at night, even colder. She's losing a ton of feathers, which...

Old hen acting sick. Do anything?

Seeing how she has poo stuck to the feathers on her vent, she most likely does have a prolapsed vent

Old hen acting sick. Do anything?

She may have a prolapsed vent. This happened to one of our hens, she showed to same behavior as yours, and she died a few days after. (actually, 2 of our hens died of it...). It IS curable, my mother has done it, but that's also when our old girl was a chick. Just google search "How to cure a...

    Hen walks funny, seems weak?

Can you post some pictures of her, and close ups of the bottoms of her feet and toes, toes, and full feet (both feet), and legs, that may help people to identify what it might be. Ty!

    Hen walks funny, seems weak?

Here is some stuff I found. Scald ~Scald is when the skin on the legs, and particularly the feet of your chickens, turns a very red raw colour and becomes painful for the chicken. This is a condition brought about purely through housing problems – wet bedding and flooring results in the ammonia...

    Hen walks funny, seems weak?

Look at her toes, and see if any of them are curved at an odd angle. She may have broken a toe, and it will heal eventually, but still keep it's odd angle, and may appear "lumpy". I've had a barred rock who broke 3 toes, and walked funny, and also did stop to rest often. They did heal, and after...

Can adult chickens eat chick food?

It's totally fine if they eat chick food, and I'd recommend just mixing it with your regular feed, just make sure there's more regular food then chick food.

young chicks and old hens in same coop, how to seperate there feed

You don't need to seperate the food. Just mix the chick food and normal food in the same feed dish, they'll pick and choose, or just give everyone chick feed. We mix our chick feed and regular and it's all good.

What treat did your chickies get today?

Compost!!!! Cinnamon and Luna's favorite! (Cinnamon is a rhode island red, luna is a black astralorp). My spoiled silkies only eat when I feed them so they didn't touch it -.-

4 wk old Grey Silkie. Am I a Pullet or a Roo?

oh, and also roo's tend to have more mohawk like top knots, while females will have much rounder and larger ones. Look at my profile pic of my silkie girl Jule, her top knot is HUGE. sShe can't see very well, so we're thinking about giving her a "hair-cut".

4 wk old Grey Silkie. Am I a Pullet or a Roo?

It's too young to know. I think it looks like a splash silkie, but it's tough to tell. Our silkie roo crowed at around 3 months, which is fairly early. He also started doing the "dance" around a week before the first crow. Watch for these sighns, and you should be able to figure it out at about...

Question about a light Brahma Gender

I'm sorry to say, but I think it is a rooster. I would still keep him/her and listen for crowing. If 'she' crows, you'll know it's a boy.
