Thanks for your kind words. I did take them out to my mother-in-laws house this last weekend. One of my chickens sorta picked a fight and got a bloody comb for her troubles. I'm hoping that they come to an understanding soon.
It is with a sad heart I must give up my chickens.
With all the raccoons and opossums getting in, I am having to shoot too many of them. I'm getting far too good at it. I have lost half the flock so far to predators. I guess now the grand kids can play in the side yard.
My remaining...

The Opossums seem to go after the eggs more but have attacked my chickens I think. I found a LOT of feathers after a possum visit. What I'm really afraid of are the Raccoons. One actually grabbed a chicken drug it over a fence and started to eat it alive. A pellet gun seems just to...
I usually have to get to sleep before dark so I have my son lock up the chickens once they hit the sack. I even reminded the Mrs to Remind him last night because I had a hunch something was going to make an appearance. They forgot to do it so at 2:30 in the morning I was awoken by the racket...
See if you can get the owner of the dogs to put in one of those invisible fences and shock collars. That would keep their yard nice and the dogs away from the fence all together.
<< Got one, in a 55 gal drum right now taking a swim.>>
Nice. I have a few 55 gallon drums. I don't know why but I didn't think of that. I was going to let mine swim in Puget Sound.
Great Posts. Thanks.
The story got a bit sad. Yesterday when I came home from work and in the daylight I saw the condition of my chicken that was drug over the fence. It had a huge gaping hole in her chest. It was a very deep and messy wound. I had to put her down. It was an awful...
You're right of course. I like seeing wildlife around the area. Makes me feel we haven't ruined everything yet. My coop isn't too small 5x9 I think, for 4 chickens. They have gotten spoiled running around the yard.
Thanks for the input all. It does help my worrying about my chicken. I'm going to keep a close eye on my poor chicken for any signs of problems.
I'm going to re-design the coop. I have been seeing a lot of Opossums and now Raccoons.
I used a pellet gun because I'm smack dab in the city. I...
I woke up at 2:30 am to the family yelling that something was in with the chickens. I grabbed my pellet rifle with the flashlight attached and ran to the window in time to see a raccoon carrying one of my chickens over the fence. I shot at it but think I missed. I ran around to the front of...

No, but one guy said he used a fake bear skin so the neighbors would not guess that it was him marking his fence and coop.
LOL, Sounds a bit risky in it's self.
Yeah, I had to use my air rifle so I didn't wake up my neighbors. I don't like shooting anything wild because I feel there is not enough wild left in this world, but had to protect my chickens. Yeah, I think I will have to figure out some better security measures myself.
Oh, has anyone ever...
I had to get rid of another Opossum last night. Inside the coup. I'm a little worried because I only found 3 of the 4 chickens. It was dark so one might be hiding somewhere. I have to wait till I get home to see if all is well.
I'm thinking of putting my shotgun laser on the gamo. It comes with a fairly nice scope however it wasn't too easy holding the light and hitting my target. The laser for my shotgun has the usual red dot but added a spray of dots all around to light up the area more to avoid hitting unwanted...
