    Carrying a Chicken

I looked a couple of threads on carrying a chicken and did not see the same way that I do it. I point the chicken forward and put my hand under the outside wing so that my fingers extend across and over the keel with my thumb, straight, near where the wing attaches to the chickens body...

    Double Yolks

I candled 3 of them. One might have had 2 chicks developing. The others looked normal.

    Double Yolks

The same hen is laying the double yolks. All my hens are less than 7 months old so their eggs are still a bit small. I do have 1 hen that is 16 months old so I really did not think much of the size other that to think they were fairly large.

    Double Yolks

Mrs. CalgaryFarmer: What would you like for breakfast? Mr. CalgaryFarmer: An egg sandwich would be nice sweetheart. (Ok. I embellished that last part.) Mrs. CalgaryFarmer: Those large eggs have double yolks. Let me try another. Yah. They seem to all have double yolks. Mr. CalgaryFarmer...

    Parrot Beak / Underbite Chicken

I also wrapped him in a towel to hold his wings and feet. He was quite patient through the whole thing.

    Parrot Beak / Underbite Chicken

I used these. Good nail clippers would provably work well. If you trim the bottom, trim from the point and back along the edge of the beak on both sides and then trim the front. Because of the shape of the beak, I would not trim the across the front of the beak first. I found you could not...

    Underbite

Here is an update. The first photo shows the beak before I cut it down again. It did bleed again. This is a few days later. I wondered how well he was eating, but as you can see he is munching on grass seeds.

    Who will take the bait?

I will reduce to 12 and check on her to see what she is covering.

    Who will take the bait?

Thanks. Should I reduce it to 12. I read that is a good number.

    Who will take the bait?

So I replaced the golf balls on the broody nest. I should not have marked the eggs no one else will have access to the nest. If she is still sitting at night, I will move her to the broody nest when it is dark.

    Who will take the bait?

Ok. I figured out my chickens are too smart to fall for the old golf-balls-in-the-nest trick. This is a different nest. She has been in the nest for a good part of the day. I know you should wait for 2 consecutive nights but I am going to take a chance with her. I am not sure what she is...
