Thank you everybody! I need to cull my extra boys before winter and I was planning on keeping him as my only rooster. Just wanted to be sure he really was! I think he’s very handsome and just a nice bird, even around the kids
Hi everybody . I have some ameracaunas hatched in April. I’m unsure of the gender for this one. Based on the size of the legs I was thinking male, but no crowing or rooster behavior yet. I was hoping to get some more informed opinions. Thanks!
I've got some freedom Rangers, Cornish cross and ameraucana that are about 2 weeks old and everyone is doing great. I did an order through the local feed mill.
Ok, I've only had chickens for about 14 months, so this was my first spring with everyone laying like crazy! I made pound cake and brioche bread today and managed to use up 20 eggs . My kids were so happy to find a use that didn't include more scrambled eggs. On the up side we've been sending...
I've seen a lot of people use the chain link dog kennels for runs. You would probably want to add some hardware cloth around the chain link, but it should meet your needs. Once in awhile I see old ones on Craig's list. At least that's my 2 cents
Do you have any ameraucana eggs right now? I've checked your website and you have lovely birds . I would be interested in express shipping if that's possible. I have an impressively slow postal service in my area . Thanks!
Kind of a random question, but do any yoopers know if there are any poultry shows up here or in northern Wisconsin? I'd like to go to chicken stock but I don't think I could convince hubby the 12 hour round trip car ride was worth it . Plus I would need to finagle too many days off work...
I'm not sure if the hoop coops could handle the weather either. I plan to use it as a grow out pen and for the meat birds. Then in the winter I figure I can store my extra straw and food in there. I'll see how it does this year and go from there.
I have to admit my mechanically inclined father helped me a lot, but we did get it done in a couple days. So much easier than my big coop. . I have to admit I keep thinking of more uses for them. I might need a breeding pen in the future after all. For this year I plan to put some freedom...
Hi everybody. I thought I'd show off my new hoop coop. Right now it's a grow out pen for my 6 week old chicks. They love the room and I love having them outside [/IMG].
The tarp can be pulled back for air flow or pulled forward to keep the wind and rain out. Technically it's mobile, but I'm...
ok I'm hoping I can get some advice from folks who have used some of the different incubators. I currently have a brinsea mini advance incubator. I'd like to upgrade to a larger incubator. One that can hatch 18 or more eggs. I'm planning on spending $300 to $400. Would you recommend a larger...
Thanks for the advice. I did an apron of hardware cloth around my permanent coop but I was afraid it wouldn't be as portable then. However now that I have the structure built I'm not sure it's easily portable anyway. It's a bit heavier then I had anticipated. I won't be able to work on it until...
I just wanted to say my eggs arrived today and the packing job was excellent. Not a single broken egg! Also your eggs are a lovely shade of blue . Thank you!
Ok i need a little advice. We are building our first hoop coop. I've been trying to come up with a way to keep critters from digging under and getting in. I'm thinking of putting in a "floor" of wire. Do you think I need to use hardware cloth? I think a fencing with larger holes would do a...
I'm not sure about tarragon but thyme and sage should be fine. Mine has always come back every year. I know some of the fancy varieties of sage are less hardy (like the purple leaves) but I've had the same plants for a couple years now and if they survived last winter this year should be no...
I'm pretty new here too and just incubated my first eggs. It's ridiculous how exciting it is waiting for them to hatch! Everybody here has been really helpful and I've found lots of good advice. Good luck
