I also agree the amhersts are not pure but will probably look kinda correct as adults. The goldens does look fine to me. Sure the legs aren't bright yellow but as far as i know there are lines that have a bit duller tone (which probably also means not entirely pure). But i also get the feeling...

Yes but by looks you can tell obvious signs of mixing so it's a start. And if the breeder keeps what looks to be a golden male together with what looks like amherts hens for example. I know that even if they look pure they might not be pure. But if the ladys got red in the breasts or the goldens...

Do you have pictures of the amherst trio aswell? I find it very strange that a '''breeder'' would mistake goldens and amhersts because when you got both of them it is not hard to tell which is which. And that makes me think he might be breeding them mixed in the same pen and therefore got no...

Yes they are golden males. You should return them to the seller. I am not sure about your juvi amherst either as the beak looks a bit too yellow. Do you got any side pictures and where the legs are shown? Were they all from the same seller? Might be ''mutts'' then if he tried to pass them off as...

    I need an answer

And they will crossbreed so any offspring should not be sold as pure anything as you may not know if they are hybrids. Can be very hard to tell with females and young males. So pretty much mix them if you only got them as pets but aren't hatching any eggs, or if you hatch to then eat the...

    Golden Pheasant Housing Questions

As we're not sure if we will get the pheasant aviary ready this autumn and i dont want them to live in a small cage all winter either we're gonna try make the chicken run pheasant friendly and they will live there temporary. I know keeping chickens and pheasants together isn't good and it will...

    Golden Pheasant Housing Questions

Yes I can always house the extra male elsewhere if things go bad. Always good to have ''spares''. Probably will need some kind of wind cover tho as only a roof dont seem enough. Can get quite windy sometimes and wont be good if it blows in rain/snow on the birds and they have nowhere to get...

    Golden Pheasant Housing Questions

Ye i'll have to wait and see for that. Seen others keep goldens mixed with more males and females without problem. But really should get started on their housing. Need to know about what kind of house/wind cover they need as i will probably have to put that in before i put the dog pen together...

    Golden Pheasant Housing Questions

Just received a gift of 2 pairs of Golden Pheasant younglings so need to start getting onto the housing quite quickly. So far i got an old dog pen i was going to use. Will be 6*3 meters and with extra netting to stop rodents/martens. And with planks at the bottom so they can't see out while on...

    Getting Young Goldens

Thanks. He does got more pairs and yes they are most likely related or siblings. But well they aren't easy to get in my country so it's a start. Can probably find a single male somewhere else in the future to mix in.

    Getting Young Goldens

But the eye colour change wont happen until they are 3-4 months as far as i read? And yes i want atleast a pair but these are what i have found, And i was thinking of buying 4-5 of them which should result in atleast a pair. Of course gender matters. Wouldn't want to end up with only males...

    Getting Young Goldens

I have finally found someone who might be selling Red Golden Pheasants (got eggs in hatcher atm). They will be sold faily young however guessing betwen 1-2month. Is there any way to see the gender at that age? Will the ''teardrop'' you can see on newly hatched chicks still be there? I am...

    Red colour

I'll just hope i can get some blacks from him then since i really want that colour back in my coop (i lost all my pigeons awhile back). Also got 3 rec whites that might carry spread if i am lucky. Will probably mate the red male with a blue bar or a blue check pied. The blue bar hen is my...

Thanks. Is there any way to tell if he is spread or not when they have this colour?
  16. Jack Scarecrow

    Red colour

Does anyone know what kind of red this bird is? Ash red or re red? If ash red, is it spread? It got a few white fathers at the back and a little white in the tail feathers + hints of white here and there.
