Runny Poop in One Week Old Chicks

My girls are one week old and I have noticed some very runny poop in the brooder. They get a boiled egg along with regular chicken crumbles. They were vaccinated for Mercers. I've tried ACV in the water. They also get electrolites and proboscis too. There is not any blood in the poop. What...

    YO GEORGIANS! :)

My first time to a poultry show and didn't know what to expect. We were there by 9 am. Some rows were blocked for judging and one tent was totally blocked off. We came back at 4 and was able to go thru all exhibits. There were some very impressive exhibits in the big tent. They even had 4 /...

    Pasty Butt Question

Just had to wash one of my adult RIR hens bottom off. I think I got most of it but when I put her back in the coop, yes, they started picking at her. Ran back to the house and got the blue kote and sprayed her bottom. Seems to stop it. Will they others try to pick at her on the roost tonight...

    Pasty Butt Question!

My girls have been laying since Dec. I have one who has a little poop back there but not really what I would call pasty butt. I have trimmed her feathers a little and it has seemed to help. I thought it only happened with new borns. I wormed all of them last week and plan to do it again next...

    New Chick Bedding

I've been reading Storey's Guide to learn about raising new chicks. They say that raising them on an earth floor gives them immunity to coccidiosis. Should I put some of the straw from my existing coop in the bottom of the brooder for this purpose?? Just want to give my girls a good start.The...

    Lighting in coop

Yes, they are full grown. I'll take your advise on the light and work on a timer for it. I was thinking it was too much light anyway. Part of my concern is the current coop is really small and they actually need the light to get on the roost. Timer would solve all the problems. thanks for...

    It was all a whirlwind!

Llooks like you have Reds and maybe Buffs. I have 8 RIR's and only have one who is a little independent. Mine are not aggressive and will follow me around when I let them out of run for about an hour each day. You are in for a great adventure. I take 5 gal. bucket, turn it upside down and...

    Lighting in coop

I have a red light in the coop (25 watt) for heat. Is it ok to leave it on all night. It is a mounted fixture so no fire will start. Just wondering if it is too much light for the girls. The 8 RIR's are giving me 7 or 8 eggs per day. I don't want to over work them!

    Automatic door opener

I currently have a "Chicken Guard" model and have been pleased so far. Since we have a small coop and the configuration is a little difficult, the door doesn't open up high enough. We are getting a new 7x12 coop and was wondering if you'll might have her suggestions?
