from 12/27 babies to their first eggs laid this past weekend
I also just learned that they start laying small eggs that will get larger ... learn something new every day being a new chicken mom
Latest udpate: a month later and all is well ... Thank you God!! :) The lil babies have been well protected in their home made dog kennel open coop.
the bags of soil around the coop are to cover the wire on the floor outside perimeter to prevent digging predators, about12' wide. at some...
OMG ... they grow so fast
here they are about 9 weeks
I still know who dell and bing are, but get confused with chrome, firefox and google
how do you guys tell 'em apart??? LOL
just an update : so far so good ... they have been outside for a week now!
Have had a good amount of rain and wind that didn't phase the chickens in any way and no predator problems ... they are still alive! :)
here it is today with my 7-8 wk old barred rocks... who appear to be LOVIN it!
completely covered with hardware cloth, stays nice and dry in the back in the rain and has PLENTY of ventilation
as you can see the hardware cloth also comes out from the bottom 18" to deter predators from digging...
sounds nice! we have also decided to slope a metal roof to cover it
I like your idea "to prevent the chicks or adults from putting their heads out- we use screens on the inside held in place by large binder clips."
"amazon.com; got a 36 inch x 50 foot roll for a few cents under $60 with free shipping" I do love amazon ... never been much of a fan of wayfair myself
thanks ... that does help!
sorry to hear you had a hard lesson ... that is what I am hoping not to do with the help from you guys ... thanks for the tips too
was just looking at hardware cloth 'HDX 1/2 in. x 3 ft. x 25 ft. Hardware Cloth'
thinking of covering the kennel with it and a foot in the ground too
