Hi everyone,
I haven't posted here in years but I have a pair of 5 year old Super African Geese from Metzers. My female got attacked by raccoons last night. For a lot of reasons keeping them safe just isn't an option anymore. Is there anyone near Greenville, PA who would want him if she doesn't...
I am having the worst incubation of my life with some shipped eggs right now. Order was delayed, box looked like it had been punted, saddle shaped air cells and so on. One egg has hatched of 30 (miracle!). It looks like I may, and I mean *may* have one or two more chicks hatch. Maybe. If they...
Well this is interesting! According to this green whites can be caused by an excessive of riboflavin... google that and you get spinach. The hens have been geting a lot of spinach lately! I wonder if you solved it? Thank you!
I've had chickens for years and this is a first. Twice this week I've hardboiled banty eggs and peeled them to find one with a green "white". I believe this is only affecting one hen. They cannot free range due to hawks so it's not something she's getting into weed wise. The eggs are being...
Hello to Franklin from Greenville (waves)! I have super Africans currently but American Buffs are on my wishlist!
OP: I'm not sure where you are in PA, but I just sold a couple of geese through a local agriculture site on Facebook (not the general marketplace) perhaps just post asking about...
I have an easter egger hen who is currently glued on the goose nest. She is trying to cover about 8 goose eggs. This is crazy right? I'll need to move her into the main coop to tonight, is it possible she could hatch them? If so I will take some with her and set her up. The geese could care less.
Hello! My african geese are laying along with the chickens now and there are only so many eggs we can eat in a day. I was thinking of putting some goose eggs on craigslist/Facebook for hatching, pysanky. All the geese do, all day long, is mate and there is a bull's eye in the yolk.
What on earth...
That's part of the problem I'm running into looking around. It seems like the range of egg colors for standard chickens has been developed FAR more than for bantams? Does that seem accurate?
I've never thought about poisonous plants and we have 5 acres of lawn, brush, woods. Maybe they know to avoid things? The only things I *would* worry about are rodent poisons, insecticides and lawn pesticides, both on your yard and the neighbors.
Yep, I figured on Easter Eggers for blue and green eggs. I love the assortment of colors they can come in. :love
Any suggestions for dark browk and pure white eggs?
Hello,
I've been a chicken owner and member here for years. After a number of things going wrong the last two years (foxes, hawks, loose dogs) I've decided to get rid of my standard chickens and move to an all bantam flock in a big covered avairy type setting.
I really enjoy a colorful egg...
That's funny because my coop they are harassing is bantams too! A little group of booted bantams. Maybe they are just super curious about the little guys?
Just seeing the replies from both of you and thinking about it, hives have a landing board on the front bottom that sticks out and I could absolutely see then messing with it. You're right, I'm not even going to try.
I can't even believe I have to ask this question but due to reputation geese have for shenanigans here goes.
Will geese harass honeybees or a wooden hive if I put one in their fenced yard? I used to keep bees in the yard and the chickens ignored them. The geese however, like to mess with stuff...
OP, sorry if I missed you saying it but is this happening during the day or overnight? If it's night time I would absolutely blame a raccoon grabbing a tail and trying to pull a chicken through the wire. If the daytime, no clue.
Ok, I just saw you were in town. What time of day?
